Regular Full-Time

Hourly Rate: $36.64 - $38.43 (plus an additional $4.00 hourly premium)

Work mode: On-site
Location: 230 Advance Blvd. Brampton

Hours of work: 40 hours per week (4-day flexible work schedule currently in effect)

The role:

Under the guidance of the Foreperson, you'll take on a vital role performing both manual and equipment operating tasks in a variety of construction, maintenance, or operational projects. This is your chance to contribute to meaningful work and advance your career in a supportive environment.

In this role you will:

  • Maintain, operate, and inspect water distribution and wastewater collection system assets.
  • Perform water quality and system tests and takes corrective actions.
  • Ensure all work is performed in compliance with relevant standards, legislation and regulations.
  • Perform hand excavation, backfilling, restoration works, concrete work and pipe laying.
  • Clean sewer mains, laterals and manholes of debris and sediment.
  • Maintain a neat appearance and performs duties in a way which conveys a "positive image” of the Region.

What the role requires:

  • Minimum grade 12 education or equivalent.
  • Minimum one (1) year of job-related experience.
  • Minimum acceptable MECP certification is Wastewater Collection Class 1 and Waster Distribution Operator-In-Training (OIT) certificates with a preference for progressive advancement of certification to the subsystem class level.
  • Meter Installers Certificate preferred.
  • Ability to operate and maintain a variety of manual and power equipment.
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
  • Capable of accurately completing work forms and reports.
  • Must have a working knowledge of computers.
  • Must have a working knowledge of applicable regulation as it applies to compliance.
  • Must successfully complete mandatory renewal training.
  • Requirement to obtain Meter Installers Certificate
  • Physically able to perform requirements of the job.
  • Possess a Class “GZ” license in good standing with preference for “DZ”.
  • Must be willing and available to work independently on shifts.
  • Testing may be required.

Preference will be given to qualified candidates who are currently in the CUPE Local 966-Public Works bargaining unit.

Peel Region remains committed to uninterrupted service delivery during the transition outlined in the Peel Transition Implementation Act, 2024, introduced by the Ontario government on December 12, 2024. If passed, this legislation would transfer responsibility for regional roads and stormwater infrastructure to Brampton, Caledon, and Mississauga by July 1, 2026, or as determined by the Minister.
