The Division of Medical Oncology and Hematology (DMOH) is an academic and service unit within the Department of Medicine at the University of Toronto and Princess Margaret Cancer Centre/University Health Network (UHN) and Sinai Health System (SHS).Our program supports extensive clinical, translational, and basic research initiatives including a large clinical trials program.
DMOH seeks to identify Physician Assistants (PAs) to join our vibrant multidisciplinary team where outstanding, innovative and evidence-based oncologic care is provided to patients with cancer. We are looking for PAs in our acute oncology, gynecological medical oncology and lung oncology programs.The PA will be based at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre and function as a vital part of a collaborative team of physicians, nurses, trainees (residents and fellows) and other allied health professionals participating in the day-to-day management of oncology patients primarily in the outpatient setting.
With our acute oncology program there is an opportunity for more of an inpatient focus.
The PA will have the opportunity to take part in quality improvement initiatives, policy or clinical pathway development, education, research, health advocacy, professional development, and leadership opportunities throughout their career. The PA will be offered training and educational opportunities both at orientation and at an ongoing basis, and will be expected to develop their potential as a leader and teacher in DMOH.
Working under the direction of a supervising Medical Oncologist, the principal responsibilities of the PA may include but are not be limited to: conducting patient interviews and taking medical histories; performing physical examinations; management of symptoms and treatment-related adverse events; ordering and interpreting tests; providing medical orders and prescriptions; assisting with patient admission and discharge; patient counseling on their oncologic situation; and delivery of virtual medical care, including partial work from home opportunities.
The PA will also have the opportunity take part in the care of patients who are receiving treatment as part of research-based clinical trials. The PA will perform other duties consistent with the job classification, as required.
