The Opportunity
Our dynamic Corporate Affair team is keen to bring in a co-op, internship or work-study student to support our current workload demands. As a member of our team, you will be instrumental in providing support for the Corporate Affairs team on a variety of legal & regulatory projects.
The Role
Supporting the General Counsel and the Corporate Affairs team, you add value and are energized by key areas of oversight such as:
- Reviewing constating documents and historical regulatory filings and developing of an updated Corporate Organizational Chart;
- Assisting with Corporate and Securities filings as required;
- Reviewing and updating the Board Governance Manual;
- Researching Best Practices in Board Governance;
- Assisting with planning and preparation for Board Meetings and/or Ferry Commissioner meetings;
- Assisting with development of a Legal and/or Regulatory Policies;
- Reviewing historic Ferry Commissioner orders saved in SharePoint to determine those that are still current/effective & then categorize in SharePoint as appropriate;
- Canvassing the company to develop an inventory of existing corporate policies; review inventory and determine gaps;
- Reviewing BCF Code of Conduct, conduct research on other broader public sector company codes of conduct, and recommend updates;
- Researching and developing a new FOIPPA (Freedom of Information and Privacy Protection Act - BC) decision reference library;
- Drafting a discussion paper on each section laying out the features of the section and presenting the decisions for and against applying the section;
- Creating a searchable database of Privacy Impact Assessments for wider audience access (e.g. project managers, business analysts, business areas looking to embark on similar projects as previously-assessed projects), and
- Any additional duties as required.
- Successful candidate must be a 3^rd or 4^th year student at one of the Canadian post-secondary programs in business or law student with at least one year completed and ideally an undergrad in business
- Minimum 4 months work experience in a professional environment
- Effective written communication for drafting reports, legal memos, and correspondence
- Strong verbal communication for interacting with clients, stakeholders, or colleagues
- Ability to explain complex legal or business concepts in layman's terms
- Applying logic and critical analysis to solve legal or business issues
- Experience in developing strategies to address legal challenges in business settings
- Ability to identify potential legal risks and recommending preventative measures

SALARY- $25 - $30/hr, 35hrs per week
