Overview:

As the Estimator, you will be responsible for estimating damage to all types of vehicles. The Estimator completes estimates at a service or claim centre and works remotely visiting off-site repair facilities, tow truck company compounds, and other locations.

The Estimator inspects vehicle damage and provides an estimate for the total cost of repairs.

Working in a team environment, the Estimator reviews repairs completed by repair facilities across the province. Estimators review and validate requests for supplement repairs by a repair facility during the repair process.

Responsibilities:

  • Inspect vehicles at the service/claim centre and satellite estimating locations. Confirms damage and prepares vehicle damage estimates using an automated estimating system, in accordance with MPI Estimating Standards and Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) repair procedures.
  • Organize and complete road call estimates to ensure a high level of service to customers and repair facilities.
  • Review supplements and first-estimates submitted by repair facilities to ensure accuracy; approves additional repairs in accordance with MPI Estimating Standards and OEM repair procedures.
  • Review Direct Repair and corresponding supplements and photographs submitted by Direct Repair facilities to ensure accuracy, and approves additional repairs in accordance with MPI Estimating Standards and OEM repair procedures.
  • Review and approve first estimates and supplements submitted by repair and remediation facilities for mouse infestation claims, off-road vehicles, recreational vehicles (RV) and motorcycles.
  • Review and approve claims submitted through the virtual claims file (VCF) process.
  • Complete first estimates on commercial vehicles.
  • Review repairs completed by repair facilities, and authorizes additional repairs as required for own and other estimator’s work.
  • Priorize work to ensure a high level of service to customers and repair facilities.
  • Process short payments to repair shops, if requested, after a claim is closed.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • Journeyperson Certificate (Red Seal) or Certificate of Qualification in Motor Vehicle Body Repairer, Automotive Service Technician, or Truck and Transport Mechanic.
  • Seven years bench experience in autobody repair including one year experieince in a customer service capacity.
OR
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ten years of bench experience in the autobody repair including one year experience in a customer service capacity.
  • Platinum status in Estimator or Auto Physical Damage Appraiser role within the I-CAR Gold Class Professionals Designation program, or willingness to complete and maintain designation.

Technical Knowledge and Skills:

  • Working knowledge of applicable OEM requirements.
  • Working knowledge of applicable legislation and regulations.
  • Oral and written communication skills with the ability to convey technical information in a clear, concise and understandable manner for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Works with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work with minimal direction and exercise initiative.
  • Ability to maintain professional relationships with external repair facilities and agencies.
  • Ability to multi-task and handle high volumes of workflow.
  • Working knowledge of software applications, including MS Office.
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team
  • Organizational, decision making, conflict resolution and customer service skills.
  • Mechanical aptitude and problem solving skills

Conditions of Employment:

  • Candidates must have a valid driver’s licence.
  • Overnight travel may be required when working at the Thompson, Dauphin, Swan River, and The Pas locations.
