(18- month Temporary Full-time)

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Director – Legislative Services & City Clerk, you will be responsible for the co-ordination and implementation of the legislative and operative functions of the Office of the City Clerk.

As a statutory officer appointed by Council, you will assist and work in the absence or with the delegation of the Director of Legislative Services & City Clerk as prescribed by the Municipal Act, 2001. You will supervise a team of legislative professionals who serve City Council and the community and serve as the Deputy Returning Officer for the Municipal Election as required by the Municipal Elections Act.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have the following:

  • A degree in political science, public or business administration or a related field; and
  • A minimum of five years management experience, including direct supervision of staff in the public sector; or
  • A diploma in public or business administration or a related field and 7 years management experience, including direct supervision of staff in the public sector.
  • Knowledge of the role of municipal government, the legislation that supports and frames its programs and services.
  • Experience in business management, planning, budgets, and finance.
  • Experience in the various components of human resource management, including union and non-union environments.
  • Ability to review legislation and provide interpretation and advice to members of City Council and senior leaders in the corporation.
  • Demonstrated commitment to integrating equity, diversity, accessibility, inclusion, and Indigenous perspectives into decision making and service delivery.
