Senior Financial Analyst

Corporate Services – Business & Financial Planning Division

Status: (1) Contract Full-Time position – Up to 13 months
Salary Range: $89,469 to $111,834 per annum (plus comprehensive benefits)

Work Mode: Hybrid i.e. 1-2 days on-site per week or as per operational requirement *see below for more details about this work mode.

Reporting to the Supervisor, Financial Planning and Reporting, the Senior Financial Analyst provides senior level support for the strategic, financial and business planning for the program, including reserve management, assessing the financial performance against targets and the coordination of the capital and current budgets to ensure that programs are measured.

The Senior Financial Analyst is accountable to the Director of the Program(s) that they support. This position supports the program in effectively managing their business, based on evidence and financial principles that are regularly measured to ensure services are provided in the most effective and efficient manner.

What you will do in this role:

  • Process feedback from stakeholders on the asset and reserve management reporting system and develop recommended solutions/actions to meet stakeholder needs
  • Oversee reserve management to ensure appropriate allocation, funding, and usage in alignment with financial strategies and organizational priorities
  • Independently perform and/or direct operating project analysis on major operating functions and new initiatives of the services of the corporation
  • Communicate and work collaboratively with other team members on the Corporate needs to prepare the regular performance/financial management reports for operations
  • Prepare highly complex, confidential and complex reports at a corporate level
  • Assist the Director and the BFP management teams (through their team) in preparation of the annual Current and Capital Budgets for the organization
  • Prepare the Operating and Capital Financial Triannual Performance Report and other reports as required, for Council
  • Review and enhance regular capital and operating reports, including salary, benefit and wage analysis and reserve management to ensure that relevant information is reported to the Commissioner, Chief Financial Officer and Commissioner (CFO), Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), Executive Leadership Team (ELT), Regional Council and external organizations as required
  • Liaise with senior staff in the Corporation on financial analysis and reporting issues and projects
  • Serve on departmental and corporate task forces and committees to represent corporate financial and business planning concerns
  • Assist the Business and Financial Planning (BFP) Director, Business and Capital Planning (BCP) Manager, BCP Supervisors, and CFO/Commissioner in developing, customizing financial policies and protocols for the department

What the role requires:

  • Relevant University Degree
  • Professional accounting designation (CA, CMA, CGA, ACCA)
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in an automated financial environment or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered

Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong and productive working relationships with all team members, management and with internal and external contacts
  • Ability to participate effectively within a team environment and work independently
  • Thorough knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)

  • Understanding encumbrance accounting and reserve management will be considered an asset

Work Location: In this role, you'll enjoy the flexibility of a hybrid work arrangement. This means you'll have the ability to work off-site and on-site as needed, depending on operational needs at the 10 Peel Centre Drive, Brampton worksite. The frequency and location of on-site work may vary from week to week, depending on operational demands, which can evolve over time.

It's important to note that your off-site work location must be within the province of Ontario. This ensures that we're compliant with all regulations and policies.

Hours of Work: 35 hours per week. The Region of Peel offers job based flexible hours of work that allows employees to manage personal and professional responsibilities while at the same time ensures business operational needs and customer service expectations are achieved.
