Ottawa - Production Supervisor
Tayco is seeking an ambitious and enthusiastic Production Supervisor to join our high performing production team. The Opportunity:
The Production Supervisor is responsible for leading, motivating and coaching a team of production workers. He/she is responsible for coordinating and supervising the day-to-day activities of a production team to ensure that by the end of each shift they have collectively achieved their production schedule objectives and have met quality standards in an efficient, effective and timely manner in accordance with Health and Safety, Collective Agreement, Quality, ISO 9001-2008, Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement standards, policies and procedures.In addition, is responsible for providing manufacturing guidelines and direction for existing and new products.

Hours: 6:30am to 3:00pm
Responsibilities:
- Plan and establish daily work schedules, assignments, and production sequences to meet daily production targets.
- Regularly communications Tayco’s core values to inspire and motivate and ensure the best performance out of the team.
- Coordinate the activities of production workers for the shift, monitor productivity throughout the shift and adjust tasks, timing, equipment set-up, or inputs so that production specifications are met and resources are used efficiently. Prepare production reports on a timely basis.
- Monitor and ensure adherence to internal and external safety, quality and compliance requirements on an ongoing basis. Ensure WSIB protocols are followed, reported and corrective action steps are taken. Strive to ensure 100% accident free days.
- Ensure harmonious union and management relationships by adhering to the Collective Agreement and by providing recognition and coaching to staff on a timely and consistent basis throughout the shift. Conduct daily 15 minute team meetings. Keep minutes; follow up on any issues raised in future meetings.
- Ensure all staff is trained and cross trained in various roles and operating procedures and standards.
- Hire staff. Proactively manage poor performance in accordance with the Collective Agreement and HR policies.
- Provide manufacturing guidelines and direction at all phases of the new product development. Ensure that designs are optimized for facility/process capabilities, and manufacturing and production concerns are addressed.
- Evaluate tooling and process requirements, identifying gaps in current capabilities. Work with vendors/facilities to develop part and tool specification and participate in the tool development. Create budget for tooling/machine development.
- Work with Engineering to manufacture prototypes in order to assess fit, function and manufacturing feasibility.
- Support Production Coordinators, Lead hands and Production Workers in the implementation of new products through regular meetings and training.
- Identify deficiencies in product specification/application, component quality, system/BOM accuracy. Provide root cause analysis, implement and re-validate solutions.
- Work on special projects as assigned.
- Adhere to Tayco’s Quality Management System, ISO 9001–2008, Lean Manufacturing and Environmental and Collective Agreement policies and procedures at all times. Optimize the machines run time by ensuring the team adheres to maintenance instructions and schedules.
- Eliminate cost and/or waste through applying LEAN manufacturing and Continuous improvement suggestions. Continuously improve processes in ensure alignment with long and short term strategies and objectives in an effective and timely manner.
- Implement 5S initiatives.

- A minimum of secondary school diploma; ideally has a college diploma and/or a Supervisory Certificate.
- Proficiency in use of hand tools
- Ideally has Supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in a furniture or store fixture environment.
- A minimum of three (3) years of production experience within Tayco or relevant experience working in a similar environment and position.
- Knowledge of the manufacturing operations and techniques including Lean, 5S and ISO 9001-2008. Ideally, knowledgeable of an ERP system and aware how MRP functions and its relation to scheduling.
- Proficient with computer applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel. Ideally, knowledgeable of ERP/Database programs.
- Proven ability to focus on the Customer and acting with the Customer in mind; value importance of providing high-quality products on a timely basis.
- Ability to achieve results and perform work with energy and drive.
Salary Range : $65,000 to $75,000
