AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY:

Reporting to the Public Art Officer, as part of the City of Brampton’s My Neighbourhood Art (Activate, Revitalize, Transform) Project, the Art Project Coordinator will coordinate outreach activities, community programming, and public art initiatives across multiple wards.

The coordinator will work closely with the Public Art team, local artists, community members, and stakeholders to facilitate the creation of community-led public art projects. Provide guidance and support to volunteers and/or contractors delivering programs.

  • Assist in the organization and set-up of artist-led workshops in each community.
  • Support community outreach, marketing, and communication efforts for each activity.
  • Provide on-site support during workshops, ensuring all materials, equipment, and resources are available and ready for use.
  • Help artists with logistical needs and assist in delivering hands-on activities like community paint days or collaborative art creation.
  • Support the scheduling of workshops, including confirming venues and coordinating with City departments for any additional requirements.
  • Provide on-site supervision during workshops to assist artists, manage participant coordination, and handle any technical or material needs. Ensure workshops run smoothly and support a positive participant experience.
  • Assist in collecting feedback from participants during and after workshops to evaluate success and gather input for improvement.
  • Help maintain accurate records of workshop attendance, community feedback, and project progress.
  • Help with the planning and execution of community-based public art installations that stem from the workshops.
  • Attend meetings, events, and site visits related to public art projects.

SELECTION CRITERIA:

EDUCATION:

  • - Post-secondary degree or diploma in a relevant field (art history, visual arts, cultural management, urban planning, or a related discipline)

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • - Minimum 1-2 years of experience in public art coordination, arts administration, or community programming, with a focus on public art and community engagement

OTHER SKILLS AND ASSETS:

  • - Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage with diverse communities and facilitate collaborative processes.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Detail-oriented and self-motivated with a high degree of initiative.
  • Knowledge of public art processes, including fabrication, installation, and maintenance, is an asset.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • - Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle are required.
  • Submit or agree to a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check.
  • Willingness to obtain First Aid/CPR certification.

**Preference will be given to students that have a permanent residency in Brampton.
