Technical Sales Manager

This position is primarily responsible for New Flyer’s timely and strategic response to customer procurement requests for the assigned market segment.

Requirements

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Leads cross functional contributors through the review of customer specifications and development of a competitive Bid Strategy that is aligned with the bid evaluation criteria, New Flyer’s customer sales strategy and prudently manages technical and commercial risk to the organization.
  • Initiates the Bid BOM in Teamcenter for bids and options and manages activities within work cell and functional team to complete all tasks by the required due dates. Monitors completion of tasks and follows up as required. Ensures the Bid BOM contains the most complete and accurate information before the pre-production process begins.
  • Responsible for the timely completion and submittal of proposal documents. Works with cross functional team to prepare and submit complete and accurate bid documentation.
  • Develops pricing recommendation based on the competitive environment, estimated project costs and company profit expectations. Ensures validation of margins is completed and secures all necessary approvals in accordance with company policy.
  • Ensures that the Bid Strategy is adhered to throughout the pre-production process and/or adjusts Bid Strategy as necessary. Keeps abreast of changes to the contract configuration and participates in Strategy meeting and Customer Pre-Production meetings as necessary.
  • Maintains the sales funnel, customer health dashboard, CRM database and other support documentation, including sales transaction reports. Provides input into the Master Production Schedule forecast for their respective opportunities.
  • Leads post mortem review of wins and losses with work cell and Regional Sales Managers with a view towards recommending changes and improvements to New Flyer’s commercial and technical value proposition. Monitors competitor submissions and provides input to Marketing & Sales Support team on competitor pricing, features and benefits.
  • Develops relationships with the customer procurement teams within the assigned market segment. Acts as the primary point of contact with the customer during the bid process. Answers customer questions and works with the Regional Sales manager to obtain a clear definition of customer needs and expectations.
  • Keeps abreast of industry standards, FTA requirements and available bus technology. Provides input to the Change Control Board and Marketing & Sales Support team.

WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:

  • University degree in business or engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Project management experience.
  • Working knowledge of heavy-duty transit bus architecture and components.
  • Working knowledge of basic accounting and financial statements.
  • Working knowledge of contractual terms and conditions.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  • Effective at managing time and competing demands
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
