Reporting to the President, the Director plays a strategic leadership role in developing the long term and short-term people and community development strategies and is accountable to implement, evaluate, improve, and maintain the brewery’s Human Resources and local community development programs to align the overall brewery strategic plan.

An experienced member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), this position directly contributes to the strategic direction and overall success of the entire brewery and is responsible for progressive and effective leadership of all Human Resources and community programs.

People Focus:

  • Lead and grow a high performing and collaborative team through various HR functions and levels within the brewery
  • Actively participate in senior leadership team strategic decisions and development of imperatives. Balance various priorities including culture, risk mitigation, cost management, organizational growth and achievement of brewery goals
  • Create, maintain, and execute people strategic and operational plans aimed at scaling for continued future growth with a focus on resource management, compensation, rewards & recognition, learning and development and best people practice programs.
  • Manage and troubleshoot the Human Resources Information System (UKG) and ensure effective utilization of program capabilities from administration and documentation to performance management and succession.
  • Coach and enable front line leaders and people department, supporting and addressing team member needs, and advise business leaders on resolution of local/current talent concerns
  • Provide consultation to the President and senior leadership team on a wide range of compliance, cultural, legal, and ethical concerns. Proactively share relevant insights and impacts to the brewery and recommend policy and programs to support our why and values
  • Drive learning and development for the brewery including the sources and registering of various course and learning opportunities. Support performance improvement activities across departments, to drive a high-performance empowered culture. At times, developing and conducting internal training.
  • Understand and interpret legislative changes and practices, and oversee all documentations include employment agreements, separations, and policies to ensure all employment legislation requirements are met and align with the brewery’s culture
  • Oversee workplace investigations and resolutions to employee concerns and policy violations, working with Legal and other leaders as required
  • Establish and maintain credibility throughout the organization and ensure strict adherence to confidentiality and sensitivity in handling all aspects of private data across the People team
  • Perform all senior level role recruitment initiatives and oversee all other recruitment initiatives carried out by the people team.
  • Continuously measure the success of the organization through overall compensation, competitive programs, employee retention, performance, and internal relations
  • Lead in internal communications for the brewery and facilitate annual retreat and team wide social functions.
  • In collaboration with the People team and We Belong committee, ensures successful uptake of diversity and inclusion initiatives by auditing and tracking inclusion, diversity and human rights activities in all aspect of the brewery.
Community
  • Lead the Muskoka Brewery Community Venture local fund resources. Work with Sales, Marketing and the taproom to facilitate strategic funding priorities and portfolio; develop and implement strategic priority plans to leverage local community partnerships, donations and sponsorships
  • Develop meaningful relationship with community leaders to evaluate local committees in which Muskoka Brewery can make a significant difference
  • Actively represent the brewery at local Muskoka community events, supporting employer groups, other employers, charities, and specific community outreach committees
  • With the objective to volunteer time and knowledge, identify key volunteer board of director committees that align with the brewery’s vision on community support and actively develop a positive relationship to support community development initiatives.
  • Manage and steward our Community Venture fund strategies to fund local priorities; develop and implement strategic priority plans to leverage local community partnerships, donations, volunteer and sponsorships. Track and manage budget for programs such as 1% for the planet, and Veritree.
  • Work with the Taproom team to facilitate various community venture fund resources to support our local community including dinners, gift baskets and donations. And engage our team with the utilization of our paid Volunteer Day.
Requirements
  • Professional Human Resources designation (CHRP) or exceptional knowledge of Human Resources gained through equivalent experience
  • University Degree with a minimum of 10 years professional Human Resources experience, including 5 years of senior management experience
  • Solid applicable design, roll out and follow up on building strategic organizational development initiatives and direction within an equity framework lens
  • Practical knowledge of the not-for-profit sector, experience working with Boards of Directors and Board Committees is an asset
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to rally and influence others around a common goal
  • A solid understanding of Employment legislation and best practices
  • Proven experience in managing annual budgets
  • This role is a hybrid position, working at the Bracebridge brewery 2-3 days per week
