Responsibilities
Tasks- Evaluate the effectiveness of social programs
- Interview client individually, in families, or in groups, to assess their situation and problems to determine the types of services required
- Take authorized protective action when necessary
- Perform administrative tasks
- Provide counsel and therapy to help clients resolve social and personal problems
- Plan programs of assistance for clients
- Refer clients to agencies that provide financial assistance, legal aid, housing, medical treatment and other services
- Provide public education and consultation regarding counselling services, issues and methods
- Conduct social research
- Write research papers, educational texts and articles
- Apply for social program funding
- Deliver presentations at conferences, workshops or symposia
- Evaluate the effectiveness of counselling and the patient’s outcomes
Credentials
Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses- Provincial certificate of registration
- Membership in a provincial association of social workers
