Toronto - Mechanical Engineer
Overview:
The Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for the design and documentation of Li-Ion Batteries for Motive Power Application. They will be responsible to design, develop, and enhance Li-Ion products optimized for cost-effectiveness, reliability, efficiency, and durability.The candidate will be a member of a mechanical engineering team and be part of a multi-disciplinary team to develop products and systems for a wide range of applications.
Based in our Ottawa, Canada office.
Responsibilities:
- Assessing a design brief to gauge the design requirements
- Conducting and/or using research on user experience and needs, current market trends and general functionality
- Developing solutions that solve user problems
- Determining whether a design solution is user-friendly, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly
- Creating multiple iterations of design prototypes using SolidWorks CAD tools
- Conducting rigorous usability tests and modifying the product based on the test results
- Evaluating design solutions against industry standards and regulations
- Vendor development support
- Other duties as assigned.
Technical Data Management:
- Capability to manage and control configuration of technical data in SolidWorks PDM.
- Bill-of-material (BOM) creation and update
- Implementing technical data management within the requirement of an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.
Qualifications:
Educations, Experience, Certifications- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in mechanical design and a Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Prior Internship in Li-Ion considered.
- A minimum of 1000hrs using SolidWorks and experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Good understanding of mechanical principles, tolerancing and strength of materials
- Experience using GD&T per ASME Y14.5-2009 is considered an asset
- Demonstrated creative problem solving skills
- Creative and ability to work autonomous and part of a team
- Experience managing UL or other certifications a plus
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in current manufacturing processes including weldments, sheet metal, and injection molding
- Office work, product development, and manufacturing environments
- The position involves sitting for extended periods while working on a computer, as well as standing and walking during meetings and site visits.
- The role may require occasional visits to manufacturing sites, where you will need to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Travel
- Travel as required to meet business needs.
