Senior Construction Inspector

What Your Day Will Look Like:

  • As a Senior Construction Inspector, you'll play a critical role in overseeing complex construction projects to ensure compliance with engineering designs, specifications, standards, and regulatory requirements. This position involves leading on-site inspections, coordinating with contractors, project managers, and engineers, and providing expert guidance to junior inspectors. Responsibilities include reviewing and approving construction plans, monitoring project progress, identifying and resolving technical issues, and preparing detailed reports to document findings and recommendations. This position reports to the Senior Contract Administrator.

What You'll Do:

  • - Check and inspect construction activities, operations, and work to ensure compliance with the contract documents, drawings, and specifications.
  • Conduct site surveys, confirm the scope of work, obtains relevant information, equipment, and materials, and maintain quality and payment records in a daily diary for the work completed.
  • Perform all required construction tests including granular density test with nuclear gauge, dowel pull test, and concrete tests, as required.
  • Compile field/test data in a report form for review by the Contract Administrator.
  • Liaise/coordinate with service providers for specialized inspections and/or testing to ensure the tasks are completed in accordance with the terms of reference, specifications, or agreement.
  • Attend site meetings as required.
  • Obtains video / photographic records as required.
  • Record, reviews, and address contractor questions and clarifications by reporting to the Contract Administrator for resolution if not already provided to the contractor.
  • Receive general direction on key objectives, guidance, when necessary, on unconventional or complex issues, direction on modified techniques and approaches on assignments with conflicting criteria.
  • Assign tasks to and directs staff.
  • Plan and coordinates detailed aspects of team members' work.

What You'll Need:

  • - Post Secondary degree or diploma/degree in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology / Technician.
  • Demonstrated Construction Inspector experience on 3 or more similar MTO or municipal projects or equivalent.
  • A certified technician or technologist with OACETT (C Tech/CET), Road Construction Senior Inspector (RCSI) designation; or EIT/P.Eng with PEO.
  • Able to work on weekends and nights.
  • A valid Ontario driver's license (G License)
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD (a plus)
  • ACI field testing certificate (a plus)
  • Willingness to travel throughout Ontario is a requirement of this position.
  • Must understand role and be willing to mentor/generously share knowledge with teammates.
  • Climbing up/down embankments, ladders, and stairs is a requirement.
  • Lifting up to 50 lbs is a requirement.
