Job Description
Lakeshore Animal Health Partners ("LAHP") is seeking an Animal Care Attendant for our Dentistry and Oral Surgery department.Lakeshore is located in the Greater Toronto Area and plans to offer 24/7 emergency care alongside a comprehensive array of specialty veterinary services. At the root of everything we do, our guiding mission is to provide pets with access to the same quality of healthcare available to their owners.
Animal Health Partners and Vet Strategy have partnered to build Lakeshore, the second AHP location.
Lakeshore shares many of the same amenities as the existing Animal Health Partners location in an expanded footprint. The technical proficiency and medical equipment at Lakeshore equals or exceeds that found in many sophisticated human hospitals, including our 3-Tesla MRI which provides clinicians with exceptional diagnostic capabilities.
You will be exposed to emergency and critical care departments as part of our integrated care model. In addition, you will experience advanced nursing techniques and other specialty procedures not routinely performed in regular practice.
About the RoleAs our ideal candidate you will have:
- Minimum 1 year of experience working as an animal care attendant in a veterinary hospital
- Special interest and previous experience in dentistry is an asset but not required
- The ability to perform exceptionally well under pressure
- Strong communication and teamwork skills

Duties and Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of RVTs and a board certified dentist and oral surgeon, the duties and responsibilities of a Dentistry ACA include, but are not limited to:
- Ensure animals and kennels are kept clean and properly identified
- Restraining patients for physical exams as well as assisting with sedating and inducing patients for general anesthesia
- Create a low-stress environment for our in-hospital patients
- Washing and sterilizing of instruments and equipment according to LAHP established policies and standard operating procedures
- Inspect instruments and other components for cleanliness and proper functioning prior to wrapping
- Picking correct surgical packs and instruments for surgeries, using sterile technique to prepare operating room for surgery
- Cleaning of the OR following surgery
- Assisting with recovery of patients following their procedures
- Keeping close track of dentistry-specific inventory and placing orders online or with in-hospital inventory team
- Follow treatment orders on electronic systems (ezy Vet and Vet Radar)
- Administration duties including creating client and patient files in ezy Vet, calling clients to book an appointment and returning any follow-up calls with guidance from RVTs
- Calling referring veterinarians regarding any questions they have or patient updates/medical records they require
- General ACA duties including laundry, cage cleaning, feeding and walking patients, stocking of the treatment area
- Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment
- Exemplary client service skills
- Knowledge of veterinary terminology is desirable
- Proficiency in computer systems and electronic medical software
- Strong attention to detail and organization skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Takes initiative and accepts accountability
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs
