  • This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Markham Elevation Centre (MEC) three times per week, at minimum. We are open to considering remote candidates who reside more than 80 kilometers (50 miles) away from our base office locations and possess exceptional skills. The Opportunity As a member of the ADAS Software Safety team, the Safety Design Software Architect leads and supports safety initiatives in all phases of system development (concept, requirements, design, implementation, verification and validation) for software that is core to our Automated Driving and Active Safety systems. You will be a key interface between the System Safety and ADAS Software Teams, providing oversight and guidance to develop safe software solutions for vehicles today and tomorrow.

Core Responsibilities Lead or participate in safety strategy discussions, interfacing with GM teams and software suppliers globally Develop Software Runtime Integrity Requirements Design safety monitor algorithms and solutions Ensure adherence to GM safety and software development processes Develop, allocate, and verify software safety requirements to ensure completeness, consistency, and alignment to system

-level safety requirements Conduct Software Safety Analyses both at the software architecture/design and implementation levels Escalate any unresolved safety-related issues and confirm that the resolution process has been followed Support inhouse software teams in design implementation and testing to confirm safety requirements are met.

Coach the software teams by providing safety process knowledge Lead or contribute to initiatives towards the continuous improvement of the safety and software development processes Interface with corporate and industry experts to stay current in safety processes, methods, and tools Additional Description Required Skills and Experience A minimum of 5 years embedded systems development experience in safety-critical domains (automotive, aerospace, medical, nuclear) Demonstrated performance in a position requiring excellent understanding of embedded software implementation details as well as the larger systems picture Familiarity with ISO 26262 and other functional safety standards such as IEC 61508, IEC 62304, or DO-178C Full software development lifecycle experience (software requirements, design, coding, verification) Proficiency in C/C++ embedded programming and MATLAB Simulink Excellent oral and written communication skills Ability to work independently and in a team environment, interfacing with GM engineers globally Strong organizational skills with attention to detail Preferred Skills and Experience Experience performing or evaluating safety analysis methods such as HAZOP, FMEA, FTA, and STPA Knowledge of software architecture and design patterns Experience reviewing and/or developing software requirements from system-level requirements Multi-core programming and real-time operating system experience including Linux OS.

Familiarity with automotive systems and with active safety and automated driving systems in particular Knowledge of in-vehicle communication networks (CAN, FlexRay, LIN, Ethernet) Minimum Education Required Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Software, Computer, Control, Mechatronics) , Computer Science or related field.

Advanced degrees preferred.
