  • $79,322.69 annually Close Date 4/20/2025 Job Type Regular Full Time Temporary End Date Ministry/Organization Children & Family Development Ministry Branch / Division Provincial Child & Youth Mental Health & Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services Job Summary The Team The ASL specialists are a small, established team within the Outreach Services team of Provincial Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services that supports families, children, caregivers, and community members with ASL services.

The ASL specialists work alongside Family Navigators to help parents engage with their children and remove communication barriers.

They focus on early language development for children and ASL education for caregivers and the community.
The Role The ASL Specialist provides ASL instruction to children, youth, and families to improve communication.
They also offer Deaf cultural awareness workshops for families and professionals.
The specialist creates lessons based on the Sign Language Institute Canada’s standards and works with a team to support both signing and non-signing individuals in enhancing communication skills.

Qualifications: Education and Experience Requirements Courses/Certificate/Degree in Linguistics, Second Language Teaching, ASL Cultural Studies, Education, or related field from an accredited college/university OR Completion of American Sign Language (ASL) Instructor Training from Sign Language Institute Canada OR A minimum of three (3) years American Sign Language (ASL) Instruction experience in the intermediate/advanced level of ASL.

American Sign Language (ASL) Proficiency Interview level 4 or higher.
Six (6) months experience with technology-based teaching tools including teaching in the remote environment.
Preference may be given to applicants with experience working with Deaf & Hard of hearing individuals.
PROVISO Must possess and maintain a valid class 5 BC Driver’s license with no restriction or equivalent (i.e.
from another Canadian Province).
Will be required to do occasional travel, including overnight trips and overnight shifts.
May be required to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work from home up to 2 days a week subject to an approved telework agreement.
