Personal Support Worker

Adecco is currently hiring a full-time experienced and compassionate Personal Support Worker (PSW) to join our client’s health care team in Toronto, ON. In this role you will be responsible for providing hands-on care and support to residents in accordance with individualized care plans.
This role assists with daily living activities while promoting independence, dignity, and quality of life. Working as part of an interdisciplinary care team, the PSW delivers compassionate, resident-focused care aligned with the Long-Term Care Homes Act and Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care standards.

Responsibilities:
- Assist residents with personal hygiene tasks such as bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, and oral care.
- Support mobility, safe transfers, and the use of mobility aids.
- Help with meals and hydration while following dietary or swallowing precautions.
- Monitor and report any changes in residents' physical or emotional health to nursing staff.
- Promote resident independence by encouraging participation in daily routines.
- Offer companionship and emotional reassurance to residents.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with residents, families, and coworkers.
- Encourage and support participation in social and recreational activities.
- Adhere to safety protocols, infection control procedures, and standard precautions.
- Keep residents' surroundings clean, safe, and orderly.
- Use proper techniques for lifting and handling to prevent injury.
- Immediately report any safety concerns, incidents, or hazards.
- Collaborate with nurses, therapists, and other team members to coordinate resident care.
- Take part in care planning meetings and share observations.
- Communicate in a respectful, professional manner with residents, families, and colleagues.
- Maintain accurate records of care provided and any observed changes in condition.
- Follow all legal, regulatory, and organizational guidelines, including the Long-Term Care Homes Act.
- Engage in audits, ongoing education, and quality improvement efforts.
Qualifications:
- Certified PSW (Ministry-approved) with valid CPR/First Aid.
- Experience in long-term care, hospital, or community settings preferred.
- Background in dementia or complex care is an asset.
- Compassionate, resident-focused care approach.
- Strong observation, documentation, and communication skills.
- Team-oriented, professional, and respectful.
- Physically able to lift/transfer residents and perform prolonged standing/walking.
- Long-term care environment with regular lifting, bending, and exposure to bodily fluids.
- Must follow infection control, safety protocols, and emergency procedures.
