We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Assistant Manager, Facilities & Maintenance Conversions who will oversee the event setup and teardown for our seasonal and year
  • round events.
This role will play a critical part in ensuring the seamless conversion of venues for concerts, festivals, trade shows, community events, and other high-profile events.
The Assistant Manager
  • Facilities and Maintenance Conversions, will work under the direction of the Manager
  • Facilities and Maintenance and provide leadership and direction to the PNE Facilities and Maintenance Team for the setup and tear down of year-round events and the general maintenance of our site.

What will you do this year?

In your role as an Assistant Manager - Facilities and Maintenance Conversions, your primary accountabilities will be to:

  • Oversee the conversion of event spaces for the Playland Season, Summer Fair, and year-round events, including concerts, trade shows, community events, sporting events and more.
  • Support the management of multiple teams in coordinating event conversions across various venues, ensuring smooth transitions between events.
  • Work with vendors, suppliers, and contractors to ensure timely delivery, setup, and removal of event materials, including props, furnishings, and Playland Special Event Infrastructure.
  • Assist in the research, planning, and development of Facilities and Maintenance capital requests by preparing detailed business cases and proposals to support strategic decision-making.
  • Lead, train, and direct a team of event conversion staff, review and approve schedules and ensure timely event setups.
  • Manage the housekeeping department for year-round events, including hiring, scheduling, and performance evaluations.
  • Manage the Site Cleanup team during the annual Fair; including janitorial staff, Facility Attendants, Sweepers, Garbage Haulers, and Administrative Timekeepers to ensure cleanliness standards are met.
  • Work closely with Event Managers, in development of year-round events, including concerts, trade shows, family shows, community events, and sporting events.
  • Collaborate with Managers of Festival Programs on internally produced events such as the Summer Fair, Fright Nights and Playland Special Events.
  • Participate in weekly Event meetings with Event Managers and stakeholders to review upcoming event details, address potential challenges, and contribute to post-event debriefs to identify areas for improvement for future setups.
  • Champion works safety and create, document and implement safe work procedures that adhere to OH&S regulations and industry standards while suggesting safety improvement.
  • Attend OH&S Committee meetings and Inspections to help maintain a high level of safety compliance within our venues.
  • Manage the Toolbox Talk program by ensuring scheduled topics reflect seasonal and operational needs, tracking staff participation, and verifying signoffs. Continuously refine topics to address emerging workplace concerns and enhance team engagement.
  • Track, maintain, and update training and safety documents related to staff certifications and training, including but not limited to the Changeover Process and Procedures, Safe Operating Guidelines, Field Level Hazard Assessments, Toolbox Talks and employee certifications.
  • Oversee the storage, maintenance, and replacement of event equipment to ensure smooth operations during events. Track and update maintenance needs using management software like Mobaro and Limble.
  • Perform other duties as required.
What else?
  • Must have 3-5 years of experience in event operations, facilities management, amusement park management, or related fields, ideally with experience in indoor and outdoor event conversions.
  • Must have 2-3 years of progressive experience in a leadership capacity is required; preferably in a managerial role supervising or providing direction to a large team.
  • Previous experience managing staff in construction, maintenance or engineering is considered an asset.
  • Completion of a post-secondary degree/diploma/certificate in Project Management, Construction, Mechanical Engineering, Facility Management, or another related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Previous experience with maintenance practices including cost estimating, scheduling, licensing and permits is required.
  • Knowledge of general maintenance methods, operating requirements and safety precautions related to facilities and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of heavy equipment operation, including zoom boom, forklift, crane, scissor lift etc is considered an asset.
  • Ability to represent the organization with internal and external stakeholders, including staff, external contractors and government bodies.
  • Proven ability to work under pressure and within tight deadlines with a safety-first mind-set.
  • Previous experience with Microsoft Office and familiarity with asset management tools like Momentus, Limble, and Mobaro
  • Applied knowledge of related legislation such as OH&S regulations, WorksafeBC (Worker’s Compensation Act) regulations, Technical Safety BC, ASTM and CSA standards is preferred.
  • Background working within a unionized environment and proven experience with administering Collective Agreements is considered an asset. Ability to work outdoors and occasionally at heights.
  • Must be available to work extended hours, weekends and weekdays; including early mornings and late nights as required to oversee operations, ensure successful execution, and address any on-site challenges.

Additional Information

The PNE's compensation offerings are in alignment with a pay-for-performance pay philosophy that recognizes individual, and teamwork performance. The role is a permanent, full-time position with a typical salary range of $65,000 -80,000 $ per annum.

The starting salary will be based on the successful candidate’s competencies, including but not limited to knowledge, skills, experience, and internal pay structures. As a part of the PNE's total compensation package, this position may be eligible for other benefits subject to program eligibility requirements.
