At Second Bind, we specialize in advanced recycling solutions that transform books and clothing donations into valuable new products. Our mission is to create a sustainable future by optimizing inventory management, resale, and recycling operations.
We are seeking an Operations Intern to support warehouse operations, inventory management, and logistics. This role provides hands-on experience in supply chain operations, retail fulfillment, and e-commerce logistics.
Key Responsibilities
The role is structured into three key business areas:
- Inbound & Outbound Operations
Receive, unload, and sort incoming donations of books and clothing.
Use barcode scanners and inventory software to log and track items.
Label and package shipments for resale or recycling.
Assemble shelves and optimize storage space and warehouse layout for efficient organization.
Ensure accurate documentation and tracking of inbound and outbound shipments.- Inventory Management
Track inventory levels and update records using inventory management software.
Categorize and tag books and clothing based on quality, size, and type.
Perform data entry and analysis to monitor stock movement.
Generate SKU labels and product barcodes for organized tracking.
Audit inventory for discrepancies and report any stock issues.- Quality Control & Upload
Inspect books and clothing for defects and damages before resale.
Use photo editing tools to prepare product images for online listings.
Upload product details to e-commerce platforms, ensuring accuracy in descriptions and pricing.
Classify and categorize products for resale based on demand and condition.
Perform quality control on online listings to maintain consistency and accuracy.
Education Requirements
Currently enrolled in a co-op program related to Operations, Supply Chain, Logistics, Retail Management,Business, commerce or a related field.
Experience Requirements
Previous warehouse or retail experience (e.g., stocking, shipping, inventory control) preferred.
Experience using inventory management software (e.g., NetSuite, Fishbowl, Zoho Inventory, or similar) is an asset.
Requirements
Data Entry – Experience with data entry for tracking inventory and updating stock levels.
Inventory Management – Ability to use barcode scanners and warehouse tracking systems.
Product Categorization – Understanding of SKU systems, inventory tagging, and classification for resale.
Recycling Knowledge – Understanding of best practices for recycling books and clothing, and environmental impact.
Quality Control Knowledge – Ability to assess and report on the condition of books and clothing, identifying damage or wear.
Packaging & Labeling – Familiarity with best practices for packaging and labeling products for storage or transport.
Warehouse Safety – Knowledge of basic warehouse safety procedures and proper handling of materials.
Customer Service – Skills in interacting with donors and ensuring a positive donation experience.
Basic Computer Skills – Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) or Google Workspace tools.
Operations & Logistics Coordination – Understanding of movement and storage of donated items within a warehouse.
Other Requirements
Must be at least 18 years old.
Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. occasionally as part of warehouse duties.
Comfortable working in a fast-paced warehouse environment with repetitive tasks and extended periods of standing
Valid driver license and a clean record is a bonus.
