SUMMARY

Capstone is seeking a Lead Turbine Technician. The Lead Turbine Technician is primarily responsible for maintaining the integrity of the wind turbines and the workforce that maintains them. The Lead Turbine Technician is expected to independently initiate, schedule, and assign tasks to all levels of Technicians including yourself.
You have demonstrated your ability to follow defined instructions and maintenance schedules, execute plans as required, and perform according to written and verbal instructions from management staff. Lead Tech must adhere to all safety standards and procedures with a no-compromise focus on job safety.

The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in the infrastructure sector, particularly in renewable energy projects.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead and supervise wind turbine technicians, ensuring efficient maintenance and repairs.
  • Create schedules, assign tasks, and manage work orders for turbine maintenance.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to team members.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical turbine components.
  • Collaborate with the Plant Manager to refine and improve maintenance procedures.
  • Conduct quality work in compliance with safety standards, including working at heights and in confined spaces.
  • Participate in EHS activities, training, and inspections.
  • Foster a strong team environment and contribute to continuous improvement.
  • Identify gaps in safety standards as well as safety risks in the environment and provide recommendations to management where applicable.
  • Proactively look for improvement opportunities to job appropriate processes and procedures and communicate them to management.
  • Share on-call duties to monitor park performance and respond to faulty towers.
  • Effectively promoting a strong team environment through assisting teammates in accomplishing goals as well as mentoring lower-level technical staff.
  • Additional tasks as required.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders 60-125 meters in height.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, carry items up to 50 lbs in weight.
  • Ability to stand, stoop, kneel, and bend for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to grip and manually manipulate, often with repetitive motion, items such as, but not limited to, hand tools, turbine parts.
  • Comfort working in confined spaces and at heights over 100 meters.
  • Ability to successfully participate in all training courses, including high-angle rescue and training.
  • Ability to travel to remote locations for weeks at a time.
  • Periodic walking on both flat and uneven surfaces.
  • Ability to hear and use close range radios.
  • Strong field of vision including visual depth perception and ability to distinguish colors.
  • Able to work in demanding physical and inclement weather conditions.
  • Comfort working remotely with limited supervisory interaction
  • Share on-call duties to monitor park performance and respond to faulted towers.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
  • Experience in electrical or mechanical fields (e.g., electrical or millwright certification is a plus).
  • Ability to work independently and in teams, with a strong focus on safety and quality.
  • Must be comfortable working at heights, in confined spaces, and in remote locations.
  • Valid driver’s license and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Utility Work Protection Certification is required (Training will be provided)
  • Proven experience in planning and implementing turbine efficiency improvements.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams in executing specific tasks while ensuring adherence to established work procedures.
  • Strong leadership skills with a positive and proactive attitude, fostering a collaborative work environment

WORKING CONDITIONS

Working conditions will vary depending on the type of work being performed and will involve both indoor and outdoor tasks. The Lead Technician may be required to work in adverse weather conditions as long as it is safe to do so. From time-to-time extended hours as well as late evenings, early mornings, weekends and holiday work may be required.

Workers will be required to work at heights and in an environment that may have exposure to electrical, rotational, fluid pressure and associated hazards.
