Education & Experience MSW (Clinical Specialty or equivalent training/education), or, MA (Clinical Psychology, Master’s Degree in Child and Youth Care and/or comparable graduate degree at Master’s level (i.e. Counselling Psychology, Clinical Psychology).
Minimum of one year experience in counselling high risk youth. Experience planning and running independent, family, and group sessions. Build capacity and services in mental health for students, parents, and staff. Work closely with members of the school community consisting of school counsellor, LSS staff, Youth Care Workers and Administrative Staff.
Attend School Based Team meetings as needed to provide feedback and advice on students requiring mental health supports. Liaise with community partners to support the mental health needs of students. Co - facilitate groups for students with the school counsellor.
Provide mental health education to parents and guardians of children with mental health challenges. Attend Integrated Care team Meetings Consult with the school on Threat Assessments and Suicide Assessments. Provide individual, family and group sessions as required.
Build the capacity of school staff (counsellor, YCW) to run groups at school. Eligible for B.C. Certification Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Strong understanding of parental mental illness and its impact on Children and Youth and able to facilitate appropriate programming.
Strong knowledge of Abbotsford’s CYMH services, as well as knowledge of community supports available to benefit vulnerable students and families. Teaching Competencies All teachers and Associated Professionals are expected to demonstrate proficiency in the following areas: Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Ability to consider and respond appropriately to the needs, feelings and capabilities of others in a tactful, compassionate and respectful manner.
Organization & Planning: Ability to plan and organize for effective instruction, differentiation and assessment Classroom Management: Create and maintain an optimal learning environment for each student while managing student behavior and classroom dynamics.
Facilitation & Engagement: Ability to capture and maintain students’ interest, effort, participation and enthusiasm for both the content and the process of learning Assessment & Coaching: Utilize balanced assessment and feedback to improve student learning including the use of formative and summative assessment strategies.
