Maintenance Technician

The Maintenance Technician is a critical role responsible for supporting the maintenance and operational integrity of The Drake's properties. This position involves hands-on technical expertise, working effectively with a dynamic team dedicated to ensuring that all facilities are in optimal condition for guests, staff, and events.Working with the Operations and Maintenance team, the Maintenance Technician will manage the daily maintenance operations, support on coordinating projects, and ensure compliance with safety standards while providing exceptional service to all stakeholders.
The ideal candidate for this role is someone who has ambition to become a future supervisor or manager on the maintenance team, there is a strong emphasis on training and professional development in this role. This person will have strong communication skills, can work effectively within a team and independently, possess a basic handyman skill set including basic electrical, plumbing and HVAC knowledge.
They will have a positive, can-do problem solving mentality as they will be presented with new challenges everyday!
Responsibilities- Conduct regular inspections and maintenance of the property, tools, equipment, and machines.
- Painting, caulking, sanding, drywall, moving furniture, repairing furniture, routine repairs.
- Assist on major repairs including small appliances, laundry equipment, boilers, plumbing, HVAC.
- Perform minor repairs to drywall and other finished interiors and millwork, plunging toilets, replacing batteries or fuses etc.
- Apply paint, stain, and other finishes to property walls, ceilings and furniture using brushes, spray guns or rollers.
- Ensure the proper functioning of all guestrooms and hotel facilities serving the comfort and safety of guests.
- Address and respond to guest’s service needs in a professional, positive, timely manner.
- Collaborate with other departments to support special events and ensure all facilities are prepared for guest needs.
- Act as a point of contact for emergency situations (fire alarm, water damage and electrical power failures), coordinating responses, and resources as needed in a timely manner.
- Help manage vendor, and third-party, relationships; Orkin, Magic White, etc.
- Heavy lifting and climbing of ladders/stairs into confined spaces.
- Compliance with all safety regulations of assigned tasks, ensuring a clean and safe working environment with active participation in the health and safety program.
- Adherence to all environmental policies and programs as required.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance work, inventory, and safety compliance.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in maintenance.
- Knowledge of building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and general maintenance practices.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.
- Work well with a team and reliable on independent tasks.
- Proficient communication, asking questions when uncertain, and providing thorough updates.
- Standing, walking, ability to lift 20 kg, work from heights, and handle hazardous materials.
- Flexibility to work weekdays, evenings, early morning, holidays, and weekends.
- Asset if have valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
