What is the opportunity?
Primarily responsible for various risk oversight and governance activities for Wealth Management business lines in Canada (Direct investing, Retail brokerage and Advisory, Trust and Estate, Investor Services and Asset Management) with focus on risk identification and assessment via execution of enterprise risk reporting, risk policies, credit portfolio management and perform risk oversight activities for cash and balance sheet related risk themes like liquidity and interest rate risk.
What will you do?- Provide effective second line risk oversight of the Wealth Management business operations in Canada, by executing robust, effective and sustainable risk management practices and programs
- Assist in Wealth Management Group risk management activities including the ongoing development and implementation of risk controls for WMCA, the aggregation and delivery of material risk updates to the senior management committees and development and maintenance of risk control frameworks, implementation of new product initiatives
- Proactive identification of emerging risks (operational, liquidity, credit, market risk) and communication of these risks to senior management as appropriate
- Collate, challenge and ensure consistency of risk reporting for WMCA management Committee, and Risk Committees and where required WM Canada operating entity executive committees and Boards
- Support Director, Head of Risk - Wealth Management Canada to Coordinate and provide input to Enterprise Reporting Initiatives (ERR, GRM Review) to ensure accuracy and consistency
- Undertake various risk-related projects as well as GRM-led annual standalone RBC IS Trust ICAAP and Recovery & Resolution plans in line with Enterprise plans, requiring effective coordination across wide numbers of GRM and Business groups
- Review Audit and Compliance reviews for risk themes requiring additional focus
- Support the Director – GRM WMCA and Senior Director – GRM WM North America with broader ERM matters impacting Wealth Management operations in Canada, including regulatory change, WMCA input to broader Wealth Management & Enterprise level initiatives and sundry tasks
What do you need to succeed?
Must have:
- Bachelor’s degree in quantitative discipline
- Knowledge of risk management
- 5 – 7 years’ experience in financial services, with strong knowledge of the custody or depositary bank business and its products; understanding of the principles and issues of banking
- Proven communication skills (both writing and presentation) and people management experience
- Ability to handle complexity and work in a matrix environment and to deal effectively with conflict; demonstrates analytical mindset
- Diplomatic and constructive in negotiation, excellent stakeholder management skills required
Nice-to-have:
- Advanced MS Office Suite skills (Word, Excel and Powerpoint); ideally with coding skills (Phyton and or VBA)
- Highly self-motivated
- Good team player with strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Pragmatic, delivery-oriented attitude
