By the end of the course, students should know and understand the ethical requirements of practicing law in Canada, including: the ethical concepts underlying our laws and regulations governing the profession; the applicable laws, regulations, and professional codes of conduct, as well as case law and general principles of ethics and professionalism relevant to practicing law in Canada; the nature and scope of a lawyer’s obligations, including duties to clients, courts, other lawyers, professional legal organizations, and society; the range of sanctions for unethical conduct and professional incompetence; the practical issues of access to justice related to professional responsibility; and the various perspectives on the role of lawyers, the legal profession, and the legal system, including their role (or challenges in fulfilling their role) in ensuring access to justice and combating systemic discrimination.
TQR: At a minimum, a first degree in law. Several years of significant practice or professional experience, in the relevant area; Experience in teaching undergraduate law students in a bilingual setting.
