JOB TITLE: BDC Assistant Project Coordinator – Summer/Co-Op Student
DEPARTMENT: Public Works & Engineering

JOB STATUS & DURATION: Temporary 4 months
HOURS OF WORK: 35 hour workweek

LOCATION: *Hybrid Model/when working onsite, report to the City Hall West Tower

HOURLY RATE: Step 1: $21.48

Step 2: $22.40

AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY:

Reporting to the Project manager, Building Design and Construction, assisting Project Managers/Project Coordinators in the design, planning and implementation of capital renewal, repair and replacement projects for City buildings and site services.

  • Assisting in the implementation of Capital construction and State of Good Repair (SOGR) projects and work orders.
  • Providing administrative assistance in managing project documentation, visiting sites and development of reporting and tracking programs.
  • Working with staff to assist in implementation of repair and replacement programs for mechanical, structure, electrical systems to a diverse range of city owned facilities.
  • Undertaking preliminary engineering assessments and budget estimates.
  • Working with both internal and external architects, consultants, surveyors and engineering firms and other vendors as required to complete the work assignment.
  • Maintaining confidentiality based on the requirement to access and maintain sensitive sectional or divisional and organizational communication, reports, materials and records
  • Maintaining an understanding of department programs and services.
  • Understanding, adhering to and enforce Corporate Policies & Procedures, Confidentiality Guidelines, Emergency Procedures and Health and Safety Standards for all participants and staff
  • Attending meetings/training as required

SELECTION CRITERIA:

EDUCATION
  • Student must be currently enrolled in a post-secondary Architecture, Engineering, Project Management, Construction, Business/Financial Administration, or similar/equivalent program.
  • Proof of enrollment letter will be requested prior to job offer.

OTHER SKILLS AND ASSETS:

  • Working knowledge of building and construction terminology
  • Excellent communication (both verbal and written), presentation skills
  • Possess strong computer skills, e.g. Microsoft Office Programs including MS Work and Excel. at the intermediate level
  • Be self-motivated; able to take direction, seek clarification, work collaboratively with others as part of a team
  • Candidate to supply and use own safety footwear
  • Ability to work from the office, home, or alternate location with adequate internet access for daily video calls; a laptop computer with the necessary software will be provided
  • Access to a vehicle is required for travel between sites and meetings
