About the Role

Reporting to the VP, Content & Curriculum, the Senior Manager, Math & Science is responsible for driving the strategy and growth of the Math & Science portfolios. Utilizing their deep understanding of Edwin customers and their needs, the Senior Manager will lead a subject-specific team of internal employees and external contributors, research and identify new product opportunities, and provide instructional direction with subject matter expertise in K-12 mathematics.

The Senior Manager will ensure the product meets curriculum and market needs, offering editorial leadership and overseeing the acquisition, contracting, and management of freelance authors, subject matter experts, and digital asset creators, in collaboration with the VP.

This position is accountable for aligning the Math & Science portfolios with Nelson’s vision and strategy, setting and measuring goals, establishing budgets, seeking market feedback, and ensuring product efficacy. The Senior Manager must be a strong collaborator and communicator, regularly engaging with cross-functional teams—sales, engineering, marketing, and the Edwin Classroom Success Team—to understand customer pain points and needs.

This role will also lead efforts to develop go-to-market content strategies, grow, and retain the Edwin customer base, while maintaining a strong market presence and conducting customer-facing research to inform and validate portfolio decisions.

Key Accountabilities
  • Customer Insight – Conduct market research to identify market opportunities and define the appropriate products, services and/or solutions to best serve those needs. Liaise with Content & Curriculum team members, Product, Sales, Marketing, and Customer Success Team to identify key teaching and learning trends in mathematics and STEM to influence and enhance Edwin content development and learning experiences to grow and retain user base. Provide subject area thought leadership to external and internal stakeholders, including by travelling to education venues and engaging in public speaking on occasion to school leadership, educators, ministries of education, and decision makers in the K12 market, as well as at internal sales meetings, town halls etc.
  • Content Development - Launch innovative and value-generating content and features frequently, test performance, and iterate quickly. This includes leading math subject area content conceptualization and instructional design efforts by synthesizing market research, integrating Customer Success Team insights, and customer experience data points while balancing customer needs with curriculum outcomes.
  • Relationship & Process Management/Innovation - Work effectively across teams to develop, launch, and execute new and revised content strategies and services. Develop and maintain relationships with authors, customers, prospects, and subject matter experts who will help inform product development.
  • Leadership & Supervisory – As an operationally minded leader, you will focus on continuous improvement and innovation. You will have the ability to connect the “why” and the “what” while leading and developing a high functioning team of internal math and science subject matter experts and an external team of freelance authors, SMEs, and Educator Reviewers in collaboration with the VP, Content and Curriculum. Embrace EDI best practices, and a culture of collaboration, team building, agile development, risk taking, and innovation to build a pipeline of new ideas and learning experience improvements to expand and retain Edwin’s market.
  • Business Acumen – Develop portfolio and content strategies to optimize growth and drive improved product performance metrics for Edwin in collaboration and with direction from the VP Content and Curriculum.

Who You Are

The Senior Manager, Math & Science is a results-oriented leader, strategic problem-solver, innovator, and creative thinker who’s proactive, hardworking, resourceful, and good at noticing the details while keeping the big picture in mind. This role requires a high level of confidence and the ability to clearly articulate the benefits of a new idea, solution, or person. This role must excel at communicating and working cross-functionally within the organization to achieve annual performance goals. An ideal candidate in this role brings the following skillsets and experiences:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in mathematics instruction, pedagogy, and how students learn developmentally in mathematics from K-12.
  • Minimum 3+ years’ experience in leading, mentoring, and developing a team.
  • Strong understanding of subject area curriculum and its translation into engaging learning experiences that lead to student success in the classroom.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to express ideas and information concisely and effectively, adapting communication style to suit different audiences with an ability to convey complex concepts in a straightforward manner.
  • Understanding of how research, pedagogy, and best practice applies to product design, with a particular focus in mathematics.
  • Proven track record of effectively engaging the target market: prospective and existing customers, partners, and other stakeholders.
  • Proactive, with the ability to identify risks and develop contingency plans.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy, quality, and on-time delivery of market driven learning experiences.
  • Strong decision-making and organizational skills.
  • Articulate, persistent, and constructive negotiation skills.
  • Ability to problem solve, comfortable with ambiguity and change

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Preferably minimum 7-8 years’ experience in the K-12 educational market with experience in teaching, business experience in product and content development, market research and supporting customer satisfaction with students and teachers.
  • SaaS business experience, working with technology teams in an Agile/Scrum environment preferred.
  • UX and product design experience a plus.
