Location: 7120 Hurontario Street, Mississauga along with travel throughout Peel
Hours of work: 35 hours per week, including occasional evenings and weekends
Who we are: Reporting to the Supervisor, Health Protection, this position will provide expertise in implementing and maintaining a quality assurance program that includes performance measurement, and management, education, and continuous quality improvement to the Health Protection Division’s programs and services.
What you will do in this role:
- Provide specialized guidance and advice on the Health Protection quality assurance program
- Implement the quality assurance program at the operational level, by:
- Providing expert advice and coordinating the design, development and implementation of new processes and services
- Leading and/or facilitating process improvement initiatives
- Ensuring performance indicators are available to inform program decisions by contributing to the development, analysis, and reporting of performance indicators within the division
- Conducting internal review of records/reports to determine timeliness, completeness and adherence to standards for reporting, confidentiality and security of records
- Conducting audits as required to determine adherence to standardized policies and procedures
- Preparing reports and providing recommendations to support decision making and improve performance of Health Protection operations
- Providing data and preparing reports for reporting to the Ministry of Health
- Build partnerships and capacity across the Health Protection Division to promote continuous quality improvement and ensure quality assurance processes are followed by:
- Providing education and training to teams about the quality assurance program and the mechanisms to support the division
- Assisting the Divisional leadership team with identifying opportunities to improve the programs and services they deliver
- Providing guidance to public health inspectors in the performance of day-to-day activities to ensure adherence to Divisional processes and procedures
- Contribute to quality-related activities, processes and initiatives, building collaborative relationships with internal and external partners to ensure best practices are in place
- Provide consultation, interpretation and guidance and expert advice to Divisional leadership team and Public Health Inspectors on policies, procedures and other quality assurance related issues
- Maintain knowledge of Ministry of Health indicators and ensure legislative requirements are fulfilled
- Participate in and contribute expertise to Divisional and Corporate initiatives, such as the Strategic Plan, Annual Service Plan and initiatives where the expertise associated with Quality Assurance Accreditation and/or experience applies
- Fulfill additional work-related duties as assigned
What the role requires:
- University degree with a major/specialization in health administration, science/applied science or engineering
- Minimum 5 years experience in the quality and process management, program management, project management environment OR 5 years of experience as a Public Health Inspector
- Combination of education and experience may be considered
Skills/Abilities:
- Experience using quality improvement tools (Process Mapping/Flow Diagrams, Cause/Effect Diagrams, Failure Mode Effects Analysis, Creativity Methods, Affinity Diagrams, Diagram Trees, etc.)
- Strong analytical skills and proven experience in data analysis and synthesis working with data to support quality improvement and policy/procedure development
- Working knowledge of the Project Management Body of Knowledge and project management processes
- Knowledge of the Health Protection and Promotion Act and related statutes, guidelines, protocols and local by-laws
- Proficiency in MS office applications (Visio, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access SharePoint, Teams and Project)
- Strong collaborative and consultative working style
- Client service orientation to work effectively with employees at all levels of the corporation
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Experience with Adult Education concepts and strong facilitation skills. Ability to express complex concepts clearly, succinctly, and effectively
- Proficient in negotiation, developing solid internal and external relationships (Health Protection staff) and conflict resolution
- Sound judgement and ability to handle matters involving public trust
- Must be able to travel to different locations within the Peel Region, which may include multiple locations in the same day
- Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias
Nice to have:
- Certification by the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors
- Six Sigma Certification (Black Belt or Green Belt) by American Society for Quality (ASQ) or National Association of Healthcare Quality (Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality) or similar association
