Mechanical Testing Technologist

Overview:

Element is looking for a Mechanical Technologist to conduct product testing performance evaluations in accordance to well defined standards, standard operating procedures, and/or performance specifications. The successful candidate will be involved in specimen setup, data acquisition, test execution, scheduling, equipment maintenance / calibration, client interaction and technical report writing.

Responsibilities:

  • Involvement in sample preparation, test setup/fixturing, test execution, data collection & analysis
  • Reviewing and understanding of test requirements per relevant standards and specifications
  • Technical report writing containing specimen description, observations / test results per standard or performance requirements
  • Coordinating equipment calibration per Element quality procedures
  • Purchasing materials and maintaining equipment
  • Typical product evaluation methods: compression, tension, torsion, displacement, impact, stock, vibration and thermal exposure

Skills / Qualifications:

  • Completion of a College program in Engineering or Technology
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and experience working in an engineering or industrial environment
  • Experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, sensors, controllers and data acquisition systems
  • Ability to operate a forklift and overhead crane
  • Experience with common hand and power tools (ability to weld is an asset)
  • Computer proficiency (MS Office)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • 3+ years of experience in a similar role
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to read and understand customer technical specifications
  • Conduct safe material handling per Element guidelines
