Status: (1) Contract Full Time position
Salary Range: $89,469 – 111,834 per annum (plus comprehensive benefits)

Location: 10 Peel Centre Drive, Brampton

Hours of Work: 35 hours per week

Corporate Finance is a division of Finance, committed to maximizing the value of financial planning with a fixed control on long term financial strategic viewpoints and execution for the Region of Peel.

There are five service groups within Corporate Finance: Financial Policy and Development Financing, Accounting Services, Loss Management and Insurance Services, Financial Systems Development and Support and Peel Housing Corporation Finance.

Reporting to the Supervisor, Analytical Support, in this role you will be responsible for co-leading Peel’s internal and external financial reporting related to specific Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS) requirements, including tangible capital assets (TCA), debt, and contaminated sites.

This role is also responsible for the annual Financial Information Return (FIR) reporting to the Province.

What you will do in this role:

  • Ensure that all purchases, disposals, amortization and gain/loss calculations related to TCA are properly recorded in the general ledger and in IBM Maximo.
  • Ensure all transactions comply with PSAS, including debt issuances, payments, and inter-entity loans.
  • Ensure contaminated sites reporting is complete and accurate.
  • Provide expert guidance and direction relating to the accounting and reporting of TCA, debt, and contaminated sites to Finance and program staff.
  • Ensure all TCA, debt and contaminated sites information is reported accurately on the financial statements.
  • Maintain and update Peel’s TCA and contaminated sites policy and guideline documents.
  • Research and assist with the implementation of any Public Sector Accounting Board (PSAB) standard changes, including the development of policies, training and note disclosures.
  • Assist in the year-end financial statement consolidation process, including preparing note disclosures.
  • Collaborate with external auditors for smooth interim and year-end audits
  • Prepare the annual Financial Information Return as per Provincial guidelines.
  • Act as a subject matter expert related to PSAS reporting requirements in the ERP implementation project.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What the role requires:

  • University degree in business administration, commerce or economics, and a CPA/CA/ACCA accounting designation.
  • Minimum 5 years progressive business experience, preferably in the public sector. An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered.
  • Knowledge and understanding of PSAB accounting standards.
  • Knowledge and understanding of SAP Financials, IBM Maximo, and any other ERP systems, a definite asset.
  • Experience working with nVision would be an asset.
  • Experience with the preparation of audit working papers and financial statements.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Highly developed verbal and written skills to effectively communicate with internal and external.
  • Excellent analytical and evaluation skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, time management and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in developing and using spreadsheet financial models and tools.
  • Thorough knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access).

In this role, you’ll benefit from the flexibility of a hybrid work arrangement that prioritizes meaningful in-person connection. A minimum of two days per week on-site is expected, with additional in-person presence as operational needs evolve.
