As a Colour Key Artist, you will play a pivotal role in defining the visual style and mood of our animated project. You will work closely with our art and animation teams to create colour keys that establish the palette and atmosphere for our production.

Your work will contribute significantly to the overall look and feel of our project.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Develop and create color schemes that enhance the visual storytelling of the animated project. This includes selecting appropriate colors for characters, backgrounds, and props to convey emotions, moods, and themes.
  • Work closely with the art director, design team, and other members of the creative team to ensure that the color choices align with the overall artistic vision of the project.
  • Work with technical directors on light rigging.
  • Generate a color style guide.
  • Create color keys for the lighting team.
  • Maintain consistency in color palettes across different scenes and episodes, ensuring that the established style guide is followed accurately.
  • Clearly communicate creative ideas and intentions to creative director and other team members and be open to feedback and revisions to achieve the desired artistic outcome.
  • Rework Material from feedback and notes while maintaining a fresh perspective.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and techniques related to color theory, animation, and visual storytelling to continuously improve your skills and contribute fresh ideas.

Requirements

What you’ll bring:

  • Previous experience creating colour keys on fully 3D animated tv series or featurette/ feature film
  • A portfolio that demonstrates the ability to create a variety of lighting scenarios clearly and consistently, with continuity of time of day and mood
  • Strong drawing and painting skills
  • Excellent knowledge of tools and software such as Cintiq, Photoshop, Adobe, Illustrator, and other design software.

Benefits

Pay Range: CAD $ 1,500 - 1,900 per week

This salary range reflects our current expectations for these roles as of this posting’s date. Your final salary offer will consider various key factors, including your education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographical location, as well as the needs and requirements of the business.
