Your Opportunity at SECURE:

The Team Lead, Capital Projects role is a technical and people leader that supports a team of Project Managers with front-end project development, detailed engineering and design on new capital projects, facility, and pipeline system expansions.

They will also take an active role in opportunity evaluation with the Business Development team.

The individual will work closely with a variety of SECURE’s internal teams including Projects, Supply Chain, Integrity, Operations, Measurement & Quality, as well as external teams such as EPCMs, equipment vendors and contractors. They will have project engineering experience demonstrating a strong multi-disciplined knowledge base, including but not limited to process, mechanical, civil, electrical, instrumentation and controls.

Specializing in safe, efficient infrastructure projects and managing well health, geology, and project execution, the team is committed to quality, sustainability, and operational excellence while fostering a culture of safety, knowledge sharing, and reliable results.

Work Environment:

This is a full-time, office-based position located in Calgary, AB, operating on a 5-day work week (40 hours).

A Day in The Life:

The responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Oversee and support a team of technical Project Managers with front end project development, detailed engineering and design on new capital projects
  • Partner with Business Development to evaluate new opportunities and refine the scope to meet business objectives
  • Supervise & review FEED and detailed design work done by 3rd party EPCM’s on facilities & pipeline systems, with a focused specialty in EI&C, mechanical and or pipeline scopes of work
  • Support project development and Project Managers with initial scope, budget, and schedule creation within area of technical specialties
  • Support the specification, selection, procurement, and installation of mechanical equipment pumps, tanks, piping and related components; and E&IC equipment, including flow meters, instruments, flow computers, control systems, power distribution equipment, MCCs & VFDs and sampling equipment
  • Support Project Managers and Supply Chain with equipment RFQs, construction work package development, technical bid evaluations and contractor management as required
  • Lead small, medium and or large sized capital projects, accountable for budget, schedule, quality, and safe hand over to Operations
  • Provide technical support to the project team during start-up & commissioning
  • Ability and willingness to travel to site throughout Western Canada as required
  • Awareness and appreciation of document control procedures and systems

Skills, Experience & Qualifications:

The individual in this role will have:

  • P. Eng. with 10+ years’ experience
  • Experience managing projects, from front end engineering through construction and commissioning
  • Experience in leading a team of technical Project Managers, motivating and driving project success
  • Ability to read and support development of Engineering drawings including Plot Plans, Process Flow Diagrams, P&IDs, Single Line Drawings, Shutdown Keys and Control narratives
  • Experience with larger HP VFDs, MCCs, switch gear, and control systems
  • Experience using SCADA systems to support operations, troubleshoot and optimize process facilities and pipeline systems
  • Strong understanding of applicable design codes and standard industry practices as they apply to the oil & gas industry
  • Strong writing skills to be able to create clear, accurate, and concise project scope documents for internal and external resources
  • Self-starter who can work independently
  • Organization and time management skills with an ability to work under pressure to ensure timelines and deadlines are met.
  • Ability to take initiative, exercise sound judgement, influence decision making and work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Creativity in developing and evaluating alternative solutions to realize business opportunities.
  • Highly motivated with attention to detail and technical accuracy.
