The Opportunity:
The purpose of the role is to lead a new team responsible for HR Operations for Liberty’s International Americas Region - comprised of Canada, Latin America (LATAM) and a small presence in the USA - plus payroll in Canada. This role is key to the delivery of exceptional customer service to our business and requires strong interpersonal and administrative skills.This new team will be a key point of contact for employees and HR Business Partners who have day to day HR queries, and the role holder will be responsible for building out the team’s working model in line with business requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure a smooth transition to “BAU excellence” for this new team, overseeing transition arrangements collaboratively where work is being transferred from other teams.
- Provide effective people leadership by mentoring, developing, and motivating the HR Operations team to achieve high performance and continuous improvement
- Collaborate proactively across HR functions to ensure seamless integration and delivery of comprehensive HR services, enhancing overall organizational effectiveness
You will lead a team responsible for the following, undertaking these responsibilities yourself as necessary (particularly for the Canada operation; we have an existing SME for LATAM and the USA):
HR Operations- Manage the full employee lifecycle from onboarding to exit, responding to queries from employees and HR Business Partners as required.
- Prepare, review, and process employment-related documentation such as employment contracts and termination notices.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date HR data across relevant systems, ensuring compliance with internal policies and legal obligations. Process employee changes as required.
- Maintain and update HR policies and procedures, ensuring clear communication and alignment with current legislation.
- Manages the leave administration process (maternity, paternity, parental, unpaid leave, etc.)
- Oversee new hire background checks, coordinating with relevant stakeholders and external service providers.
- Complete regulatory and compliance filings as required; support communication related to compliance initiatives
- Deliver “first day” HR inductions for new joiners
- Conduct exit interviews and share themes and outputs with HR Business Partners and the wider team
- Act as a point of contact for global mobility processes (such as visa and work permit administration), and coordinate with relevant stakeholders.
- Manage and oversee support activities related to bi-weekly payroll processing, including employee records management (ADP, Oracle) as well as conducting thorough payroll audits and the preparation of annual tax slips. Ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely completion of all payroll functions.
- Ensure adequate coverage within the team to avoid key-person risk
Skills & Qualifications:
- Proven experience in HR operations or a similar HR advisory role in Canada; note that direct Latin America / US experience, whilst desirable, is not required)
- Strong knowledge of HR systems and databases.
- Familiarity with Canada payroll processes and compliance requirements.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Experience supporting multi-jurisdictional HR operations preferred.
- Previous managerial experience
