Financial Reporting Manager

The LFL (lflgroup.ca) seeks a Financial Reporting Manager to report directly to the Controller. This role oversees month-end close, group consolidation, and quarter-end financial statements, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and timeliness in financial reporting.

The manager will lead a small team, providing coaching and fostering development, and will work to improve financial processes and reporting systems. This position requires an experienced accounting professional with strong IFRS knowledge and leadership and communication skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and mentor a team of 1-2 direct reports, providing coaching and support to enhance their skills and career development.
  • Oversee the month-end close process, including the review of journal entries, elimination entries, recurring entries, and accruals to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Conduct thorough reviews of monthly balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring all discrepancies are identified and resolved promptly.
  • Perform monthly and quarterly variance analyses to provide insights on financial performance and inform strategic decision-making.
  • Assist in the quarterly and annual financial reporting processes, including group consolidation, the preparation of financial statements, and drafting the Management Discussion & Analysis (MD&A) and press releases.
  • Prepare and deliver monthly internal financial reports to senior management, providing key insights and addressing any emerging concerns.
  • Coordinate with external auditors during interim and year-end audits, ensuring all required documentation is available and supporting an efficient audit process.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for streamlining and enhancing financial processes, driving efficiency, and reducing errors.
  • Engage in special projects, such as system upgrades, policy updates, and cross-departmental initiatives that impact the financial reporting function.
  • Collaborate with operational and other corporate departments to align financial practices with overall organizational objectives and to support cross-functional activities.

Qualifications:

  • CPA designation (CA preferred) with at least 4 years of experience in accounting and reporting roles.
  • Proven experience managing and developing a team, with a focus on coaching and performance improvement.
  • In-depth knowledge of IFRS, including technical accounting and financial reporting requirements, and familiarity with external reporting standards.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey financial information across various organizational levels.
  • Strong analytical skills, with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • A proactive and resourceful problem solver who can navigate complex financial scenarios with ease.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to multitask, meet tight deadlines, and prioritize workload effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrates flexibility and willingness to take on tasks outside of their primary responsibilities when needed.
