Team Description

The Automation Centre of Excellence is comprised of a team of engineers and analysts providing software development leadership with a specific focus on building and supporting automated solutions solving for heavily manual business processes across all CPP Investments’ business departments, leveraging RPA and Workflow business process automation tools.

As an Engineer, you will help bridge the gap between development and operations, aiding in the smooth delivery of software products. You will contribute to ensuring engineering excellence and continuous improvement within your team. You will automate tasks, set up continuous integration and deployment pipelines, and troubleshoot basic infrastructure challenges to support scalability and reliability.

Accountabilities:

  • Automate manual tasks and workflows to improve efficiency and reduce errors.
  • Develop, test, and maintain automation scripts and tools to support business processes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify automation opportunities and implement solutions.
  • Ensure automation solutions align with data management best practices and security standards.
  • Support with the design and build of robust, resilient, and scalable DevOps solutions including those for CI/CD, infrastructure, and logging/monitoring.
  • Help align teams to the DevOps standards on build, continuous integration, automated deployment, and application monitoring for their applications.
  • Provide expertise to teams on industry DevOps practices and mature the practices in CPPIB.
  • Build and maintain a catalog of reusable DevOps scripts, tools, and reference implementations.
  • Collaborate with development, QA, and operations teams to understand their applications and streamline the software delivery process, troubleshoot basic issues, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Help document configurations, processes, and best practices, and actively participate in knowledge sharing activities to facilitate collaboration and promote learning within the team.
  • Undergraduate degree or college diploma in related field (e.g. Engineering, Computer Science).
  • 3+ years of relevant experience.
  • Experience with Python and SQL for automation and data processing (preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of data management principles, including data integration and transformation.
  • Experience with Robotic Process Automation (RPA) tools such as UiPath or Mendix (preferred).
  • Ability to analyze complex workflows and design scalable automation solutions
  • Experience automating builds, continuous integrations, deployment processes and monitoring with industry best practices and standards.
  • Expertise in multiple languages (e.g. Java, Python, Bash) with experience building software pipelines with various DevOps tools - Terraform, Consul, Vault, Ansible, Docker, Kubernetes, CI Server (Jenkins, TFS/VSTS), Git, Artifactory, Build tools (maven, gradle, npm, docker etc.).
  • Ability to provide concise reasons on the established standards and guidelines to the application teams that have various levels of knowledge on the topics.
