Your Opportunity at SECURE:

The Sludge Pad Labourer is responsible for supporting the safe and efficient day-to-day operations of the sludge pad facility. This includes operating heavy equipment such as loaders, excavators, and skid steers to support waste processing, offloading, and material handling.

The role also involves performing general labour duties, assisting in sample testing, and maintaining accurate waste documentation. The Sludge Pad Operator plays a key role in ensuring a clean, compliant, and safe work environment while working collaboratively with facility personnel.

Work Environment:

This position is located in Edmonton, Alberta, and offers a Monday-to-Friday schedule, 40 hours per week. The role includes the possibility of supporting on-call rotation and occasional weekend shifts, depending on operational needs.

A Day in The Life:

  • Assist in the safe and efficient offloading of vac and tank trucks.
  • Operate loaders, excavators, and skid steers to load materials onto trucks and roll off containers.
  • Operate loaders, excavator and skid steer to mix and bulk materials
  • Operate pumps, tanks, and sludge processing equipment for solids and liquids handling.
  • Participate in the processing and management of various waste types within the sludge facility.
  • Perform physical tasks such as sweeping, lifting, shoveling, and handling containers.
  • Repack waste into larger containment for transport and disposal.
  • Waste processing and handling of containers containing hazardous waste
  • Perform basic sample testing, including pH and flashpoint analysis.
  • Assist with Basic Scale and systems management.
  • Ensure waste is stored in compliance with regulations.
  • Review Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and analytical data to ensure safe waste handling.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and a willingness to learn and be cross-trained.
  • Actively participate in safety meetings, tailgate meetings, and maintain a clean, organized facility.
  • Ensure a safe site environment for all internal and external stakeholders.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 diploma or General Education Diploma (GED).
  • A valid Class 5 driver’s license.
  • A minimum of 2 years of Laborer experience.
  • Heavy equipment experience (e.g., loader, excavator, skid steer).
  • Valid industry safety certifications.
  • High attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to perform mentally and physically demanding work over extended hours.
  • Strong multi-tasking and decision-making skills in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to learn new systems and process quickly.
