Industrial Designer (Part-Time)
Sidekick designs mechanical products that help people recover faster from persistent injuries. Our tools are used by hundreds of thousands of customers worldwide and trusted by elite athletes and everyday users alike.
We build functional, load-bearing rehab products that need to work flawlessly, feel intuitive, and look premium.
We’re looking for a senior, part-time industrial designer to help shape the form and usability of our next generation of rehab products.
This is not just a styling role.
You will be expected to question the brief, challenge assumptions, and help us decide what should exist before deciding how it should look. If we ask you to “make something prettier,” we expect you to first ask whether it’s necessary at all.
What you’ll do:
- Design premium, functional forms for mechanical injury-rehab products
- Challenge product concepts and simplify designs through first-principles thinking
- Improve ergonomics, usability, and perceived quality without adding complexity
- Collaborate closely with engineering
- Design with real manufacturing constraints in mind (injection molding, CNC, assemblies)
- Help remove unnecessary parts, enclosures, or components through smarter design
What success looks like:
- Products look visibly premium — clean, confident, and intentional at first glance
- Designs feel simple and obvious, with no unnecessary parts or visual noise
- Form clearly follows function, with elevated proportions, surfaces, and details
- Products photograph beautifully and hold up next to high-end fitness and consumer brands
- Senior industrial designer with experience in mechanical or physical products
- Strong instinct for clean, premium, minimal design
- Comfortable pushing back and reframing problems, not just executing requests
- Understanding of ergonomics, forces, and real-world use
- Familiar with DFM considerations (materials, draft, part count, tolerances)
- Independent, thoughtful, and comfortable working part-time and async
- Opportunity to shape premium, real-world mechanical products used daily by customers
- High ownership and influence despite part-time hours
- Direct collaboration with engineering and product leadership
- Focus on thoughtful design decisions over churn or pixel-pushing
- Flexible, async-friendly contract structure
