Position Overview:

We are currently accepting resumes for part-time Recreation Program Instructors. This position will be responsible for ensuring recreation programs are fun, safe and engaging for participants. Guided by the goals and objectives of the City of Guelph Corporate Strategic Plan and committed to the Corporate Values of integrity, service, inclusion, wellness and learning, the candidate will aid in the achievement of the Community Vision for an inclusive, connected, prosperous city.

Hours of Work

This is a part-time position scheduled for up to 20 hours per week, including days, evenings, weekends, based on the program schedule. Immediate program needs include (but not limited to):

  • Dance programs – Sundays 8:45 – 11 a.m., Fridays 3:45 – 5 p.m.
  • Multi-Sport programs – Thursdays 4:45 – 6 p.m.
  • Tennis programs – Saturdays from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. – May to August
  • Drop-in Badminton and Pickleball – Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons/evenings
  • please note there may be opportunities for additional and different programs
Key duties and responsibilities
  • Plan, organize, and deliver high quality, safe and stimulating activities for recreation programs.
  • Maintain a safe and clean program space; as well as ensure equipment/supplies are safe, age appropriate and stored properly.
  • Completes administrative duties (i.e. Attendance, Accident/Incident Reports, opening and closing duties, etc.).
  • Take action to deal with incidents, problems, and emergencies as outlined in City of Guelph policies and procedures.
  • Report all concerns, accidents, and incidents to immediate supervisor for follow up and take appropriate action.
  • Maintain an understanding of department programs and services.
  • Provide a high level of customer service to participants and caregivers.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and requirements
  • Experience working with children/youth aged 2-12, preferably in a recreation setting. (Requirement for various Recreation Programs).
  • Experience creating and delivering recreational programming.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to respect and maintain participant confidentiality.
  • Valid Standard First Aid with CPR C certification.
  • A satisfactory Police Record Check including Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Experience in various dance mediums considered an asset.
  • Experience in various sports considered an asset.
  • Experience in racket sports considered an asset.
Pay/Salary

$17.71 per hour (under review)
