Context:
The Scarborough Subway Extension will bring the TTC’s Line 2 subway service nearly eight kilometres farther into Scarborough. It will extend from Kennedy Station to Sheppard Avenue and McCowan Road, providing quick and seamless transit for those heading into and out of the downtown core and those travelling within Scarborough.The extension will replace Line 3 (the Scarborough RT), helping to reduce travel times and improve access to jobs, schools and other key destinations throughout the city. The MCS team is partnering with partnering with Metrolinx to deliver the Scarborough Subway Extension project.
The Construction Inspector is a key member of the Scarborough Subway Extension Team who will work closely with the Contractor or to deliver the Scarborough Subway Extension.
Missions/Main Duties:
The Construction Inspector is accountable and responsible for the construction works on site including the management of the site environment, programme, health safety & wellbeing, quality & commissioning of the project, which includes the following
- Acting as a safety leader and ensuring all works on site are conducted safely.
- Proactively engaging and coordinating with Delivery Teams, Contractors and Subcontractors by forming strong working relationships.
- Drive construction delivery through proactive schedule management ensuring the key milestones, interfaces, dependencies, logistics and work sequencing are achieved.
- Leading on resolving construction issues
- Proactive identification of construction risk and assist the Delivery Teams with developing appropriate mitigation measures
- Conducting site inspections and preparing daily reports which includes progress measurement of key quantities, crew sizes and equipment
- Reviewing Work Plans, risk assessments, and permits before work activities commence.
- Conducting weekly health and safety tours.
- Work towards a snag-free completion of construction works.
- Providing technical expertise and understanding of Metrolinx onsite standards.
- Monitoring work for conformance with Issued for Construction Documents.
- Overseeing the implementation of the Contractor’s quality system on-site, and leading on construction quality on behalf of Metrolinx
- Identifying, managing and closing out non-conformances in the work.
- Proactively managing and monitoring on-site safety, environmental protection measures, and addressing third-party issues.
- Assisting with the review of Contractor’s Submittals and verification of Payment Requests.
- Attending meetings and signing off on inspection reports and checklists as required by the Specifications
Profile/Skills:
- Technical degree/diploma/certificate in the construction industry or equivalent in related field; or equivalent combination of education and construction experience
- Minimum of 5 years of experience
- P.Eng. or CET or NASSCO certification would be considered an asset.
- ACAD skill, or other Computer Aided Design software skills would be considered an asset.
- Ability to freely access all points of a construction site in wide-ranging climates and environment
