What You Will Get To Do

Reporting to the Supervisor, Recreation Customer Service, the Receptionist/Cashier is responsible for providing customer service at the reception desk, via telephone and on-line, including:

  • dealing effectively with customer complaints and inquiries, explaining programs, services, policies and procedures regarding health club, fitness and aquatics services, and other facilities and programs for the Town of Whitby;
  • handling revenue for admissions and program registrations;
  • reconciling daily receipts;
  • booking and processing of permits for indoor recreation facilities and community centre pool;
  • promoting, receiving and processing health club memberships;
  • providing clerical assistance in the form of typing, filing, record keeping, etc.; and
  • assisting with other projects/duties as may be required.

What You Bring To Our Team

As the successful applicant, you must possess:

  • a secondary school graduation diploma;
  • six (6) months experience working in a customer service environment;
  • telephone and cash handling experience;
  • a demonstrated working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel);
  • a demonstrated working knowledge of facility and recreation software ACTIVE Net is preferred;
  • well-developed keyboarding skills;
  • the ability to manage multiple phone lines and respond quickly in a busy and dynamic environment while consistently meeting deadlines; and
  • a valid Police criminal record check to work with the vulnerable sector.

  • Salary: $21.84 - $24.18 per hour (Band D)*

Hours: Flex hours, including days, evenings and weekends (maximum of 24 hours per week). All Receptionist/Cashiers will be scheduled for rotating shifts between the times of 5:15 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday Through Sunday, along with a weekend rotation.
