Senior Chemist - Trace Metals
Overview:
Element has a current opening for a Senior Chemist (Trace Metals) to join our growing team in Mississauga, ON.
Responsibilities:
- Perform routine chemical and physical analysis on the full range of analytical samples in accordance with in-house methods, customer’s method or compendial method primarily using Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS)/ Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectrometry (ICP-OES)/ Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS).
- Perform and maintain Trace Metals instruments- performance verifications, troubleshoot when required.
- Lead method development, validation and analytical method transfer testing using ICP-OES/ ICP-MS/ and AAS.
- Prepare analytical reports, method validation protocols and reports for validations and verifications performed.
- Maintain documentation, including lab notebooks, equipment logbooks and instrument raw data in accordance with applicable SOPs.
- Lead investigations on atypical / OOS result and deviations.
- May assume a team lead role for the work group by delegating work to more junior colleagues.
- Works with direct manager and colleagues, occasionally taking direction from manager and more senior colleagues as needed.
- Communicates status of work and identifies roadblocks to leaders above their manager.
- Regularly trains and mentors more junior colleagues through on the job coaching and delegation.
- Handles complex matters and problems autonomously, both routine and non-routine in nature.
- Applies base skills to a variety of processes and work streams across longer and more complex product and testing life cycles.
- Serves as an SME in multiple areas for the lab.
Skills / Qualifications:
- Minimum 8 years relevant experience with BS Degree / 5 years with master’s degree or 4 years with a PhD.
- Excellent time management and prioritization
- Intermediate reading, writing, and math skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Good interpersonal skills
- Ability to articulate how work impacts the larger business.Ability to provide clear instruction to others while delegating and coaching.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Good presentation skills with the ability to communicate complex topics to a variety of audiences.
- Strong critical thinking skills
- Basic understanding of cost control measures and how 5S and SQDC principals impact lab financials
- Ability to write technical reports without guidance and help others in doing so or review others' work.
