60% Library Technician - 10 MONTH Permanent
St John Catholic Elementary School, Guelph
Expected Start Date: week of August 26, 2024
21 hours per week, 7 hours per full day between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
Scheduled Days: TBDBand 3: $28.29- $32.64 per hour
The Library Technician supports the operation of the library by performing duties in acquisitions, cataloging and classification, circulation, reference, audio visual, and as appropriate, technical and administrative services under the direction of the Principal.Library technicians are responsible for organizing and maintaining learning resources using a manual or automated library management system. The Library Technician will also be responsible for assisting library patrons in locating information.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Instruct patrons in the use of the Library Catalog and Digital Resources
Instruct patrons in research methodologies and academic honesty
Provide Digital Resource training for patrons and staff
Assist in collection development and maintenance
Gather Digital resources (such as indexes of web sites, manuals and tutorials) to support Reference functions
Prepare displays, booklists and programs to promote Library goals
Descriptive cataloging, classification, coding and processing of print and audio-visual material
Provide assistance with interlibrary loans
Assist with reference services
Produce instructional materials and maintain files
Work within the library budget; ordering all materials for the library
Incidental supervision of students as required
Assist in the preparation of document control procedures; implement and manage project document control and document management processes and systems
Ensure that all received electronic media are filed appropriately within the document management system
Develop filing error tracking system; index and maintain hardcopy information
Operate audio-visual equipment and assist in simple maintenance
Other administration duties as required
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Must have a Secondary School Diploma and a Community College 2 (two) year Diploma program in Library & Information Technician
Must have at least two (2) years of previous related experience
Experience in library automation software, Microsoft Office, electronic technological devices and standard AV equipment
Previous experience in a secondary school library setting would be an asset
Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with individuals at all levels of the Board
Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
Strong organizational, time management and prioritization skills
Ability to create and develop promotional materials
Demonstrated ability to work well as part of a professional team
Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail
Excellent research skills
Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills
Critical and logical thinking, analysis and/or reasoning
