What is the opportunity?
As a Managing Director-Business Development-Commercial Mortgage Finance, you will be responsible for the development and implementation of a business generation strategy for the Quebec market. The candidate will be focused on increasing real estate lending opportunities through enhancing relationships with the existing network of real estate clients as well as developing leads and opportunities from potential new clients.
The highly competitive environment and general business culture in the Quebec marketplace requires a hands-on approach focused on increasing awareness in the marketplace of RBC’s various commercial real estate financing options and the width and breath of our complete suite of products, from development and construction opportunities to term lending, the latter including balance sheet, GAM, CMBS and RBCI.
This role is considered hybrid remote, however it is a requirement to be able to commute to an RBC office location in the greater Montreal region.
What will you do?- Proactive in business development to support all existing teams across all regions in the province of Quebec.
- Lead in sourcing and developing commercial real estate transactional opportunities and establishing new client relationships for the Bank’s real estate financing products.
- Establish and maintain relationships with the top tier CRE clients across the province which will require a consistent, hands -on approach that is difficult to achieve in the normal course of existing business structures and practice management associated with an active relationship desk.
- Participate in market activities – industry and client events, business associations, customer appreciation days, community fundraising, etc. Without the constraints of managing an active relationship manager desk, the MD-DB would be able to focus of their attention.
- Supporting the CRE VP as a leader in the market. The CRE VP has heavy focus on development and because the Quebec competitive set is more challenging, the candidate will be able to bolster CRE leadership in the Quebec market for term financing.
- Identifying and sourcing new business from new clients across the province. Currently we do not have a strong footprint in many markets including Quebec City. MD-BD will provide the opportunity and resource to penetrate these markets.
- Drive increased potential business to the various capital sources available (Balance Sheet, GAM, CMBS, and RBCI).
- Support existing relationships by providing an in-depth knowledge and advice on/of the various RBC term financing solutions and finding the home of best fit to meet client needs.
What do you need to succeed?
Must-have:
- Incumbent will need to be a seasoned Commercial Real estate professional with a minimum of 15 years’ experience in the Quebec market and be fully bi-lingual. The individual must have a deep understanding of the various real estate markets across the province and the competitive pressures for each of those markets.
- The individual must also have a network or have the capability to develop a network as well as have meaningful connections with the top CRE players in the Quebec market, whether they are currently clients or not.
- Bilingualism (English and French) required, as you will regularly serve our clients with English and French-speaking needs.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Proven financial acumen as well as credit and risk management skills
- Strong organizational skills.
