We are on a mission to transform how we understand our oceans, and we’re looking for a Finance and Payroll Accountant to help us scale our impact.
About the Role
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Finance and Payroll Accountant to manage bookkeeping, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, benefits administration, and office operations. You will play a critical role in ensuring our financial processes run smoothly while supporting our team’s operational needs.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and is passionate about innovation, sustainability, and making a difference in ocean conservation.
What You’ll Do
Finance & Accounting- Manage full-cycle bookkeeping, including accounts payable/receivable and project tracking.
- Verify and record income and expenses with proper documentation.
- Prepare and send invoices to customers, ensuring timely payments.
- Generate financial reports and assist with budgeting across all departments.
- Maintain accurate records and support financial statement preparation and tax reporting.
- Prepare, submit, and track grant and loan claims.
- Process payroll and administer employee benefits.
- Ensure compliance with timecard submission policies.
- Respond to employee inquiries related to payroll, benefits, and deductions.
- Oversee onboarding for new hires, including paperwork, orientation, and HR system setup.
- Manage offboarding procedures for departing employees.
- Coordinate office activities, including welcoming visitors and managing parking logistics.
Requirements
✅ Experience & Skills- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in finance, payroll, or bookkeeping.
- Proficiency with QuickBooks, Payworks, and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian payroll regulations and accounting best practices.
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with grant and loan funding processes.
- Experience in a startup or technology company.
- Passion for sustainability, ocean conservation, or clean technology.

Compensation: $52k - $68k / year plus 4 weeks vacation, extended health benefits, and stock options.
