What is the opportunity?
You will be a Senior Counsel for RBC’s European Wealth Management (WME) business, providing specialised legal services and support to the WME business and will play a central role in the implementation of successive waves of additional capabilities and products as part of a broader business strategy following the acquisition by RBC of Brewin Dolphin.
What will you do?- Provide specialised, strategic legal advice and support to the business on a range of legal issues across WME with particular focus on credit and banking products, (including deposits, lending, security, financial regulation and strategic initiatives) as well as providing support, as required, to WME’s investment management business lines.
- Collaborate with business partners and colleagues across other functions to provide legal support and recommendations relating to the development of new products and digital solutions, and ensure alignment on legal and regulatory matters and RBC internal policies.
- Provide day to day practical advice on the application of law and regulation as it relates to the provision of services on a cross border basis.
- Leverage legal expertise, financial services knowledge and external advice where relevant to deliver coordinated and comprehensive solutions.
- Proactively translate legal, reputational, regulatory and other risks into business reality.
- Provide transactional support to WME’s credit business requiring a sound working knowledge of credit documentation (loan agreements, security documents, reservation of rights letters) and associated UK consumer lending and mortgage regulations.
- Manage the activities of external counsel to identify the optimal resources for resolving issues and managing the quality and cost of the external services.
- Ensure the enhancement and development of Law Group processes to ensure consistency of approach to advice, delivery of the highest levels of service and implementation of robust processes for centralising and memorialising advice.
What do you need to succeed?
Must-have- Qualified solicitor with solid of experience working in a legal role in financial services or a related industry, with a focus on credit, banking and/or investment management services.
- Proven ability to execute on key strategic initiatives.
- Proven business/industry expertise with in-depth, specialized knowledge and experience of UK and European regulations impacting RBC’s private wealth services.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and mitigate legal and regulatory risks related to wealth management products and digital solutions.
- Highly motivated, pro-active and efficient team player who contributes to the continuous improvement of the Law Group.
- Results oriented, well organized and with ability to prioritize, impact and influence.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with cross-jurisdictional lending arrangements and familiarity with private conflict of laws issues.
- Ability to work collaboratively with other departments within RBC, and with external legal counsel and service providers.
- - Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders.
- - High level of commitment to providing exceptional service to the European businesses functions in a timely and innovative manner.
