Supervisor, Support Services (TFT) (NU 3.25) - London
Basic Function:
- As a member of the Home’s Management Team, to manage the nutritional, housekeeping and laundry services and day to day operations; ensuring that this service is carried out according to the home’s policies and procedures; the Long-Term Care Homes Act and Regulations and other applicable legislation; Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, Fixing Long-Term Care Act standards and guidelines.
- To work with the Dietitian to ensure nutrition standards and all menus reflect Canada’s Food Guide.
Position Description:
- Manage the daily operation of nutritional, housekeeping and laundry services
- Manage Human Resources within the department
- Assist in selection of staff.
- Supervisor and monitor staff.
- Complete annual performance appraisals and monitor performance of staff through audits.
- Consult with the Dietitian
- Consult with Dietitian regarding therapeutic diets, menus and supplements
- Ensure development of recipes and revision as required
- Conduct nutritional assessments (admission, quarterly and annual and as required) and document information regarding nutritional status of each Resident in conjunction with the Dietitian. Complete MDS RAI assessments as per schedule.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures for Support Services Department.
- Provide direction in the delivery of service, in keeping with ministry standards. Ongoing review of goals and objectives in coordination with corporate direction. Investigate, implement and evaluate documentation practices.
- Management of Department Budget.
- To ensure department operation within the budget guidelines.
- Manage and monitor operating and capital expenditures. Ensure that all information has been accurately recorded. Forecast budget expenditures. Provide input into facility operating and capital budget process.
- Coordinate provision of supplies
- Order, receive, and ensure proper storage and use of supplies and to process invoices for payment
- Coordinate Staff development activities for staff.
- To ensure accountability of staff and effectiveness of services
- Facilitate educational opportunities for all staff. Organize and implement in-service training sessions. Liaise with community partners to share resources for staff development.
Requirements
Knowledge and Experience:
- Post-secondary education in nutrition management, or food service management
- Member of the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management
- Successful completion of the Environmental Services (Housekeeping and Laundry) correspondence courses an asset
- Successful completion of supervisory/management courses
- At least 2 years’ related and supervisory/managerial experience in a long term care setting or equivalent to the above
Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of evidence based practices and/or prevailing practices relating to housekeeping and laundry (e.g., Prevention of Infectious Diseases Committee standards – PIDAC)
- Good communication skills (both oral and written)
- Good interpersonal and leadership skills
- Proven organizational and managerial skills
- Demonstrated ability to work within specific deadlines
- Computer expertise – must be able to apply basic functions of Corporate standard software and have knowledge of department specific software, i.e., NMS (Nutrition Management Software) and PCC (Point Click Care)
- Knowledge of MDS RAI process
- Valid Ontario driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
- Computer expertise in corporate standard software (Microsoft Office) and department specific software to data search and entry and to create and modify word processed documents
- Must be aware of safe work practices as they relate to job responsibilities and work environment, and have the basic understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
