About the Compliance Manager role

We’re looking for an exceptionally resourceful, innovative, and entrepreneurial Compliance Manager to join Float—a team that’s building the modern financial platform for Canadian businesses. As a Canadian Money Services Business fintech with an exciting growth trajectory, compliance is at the core of what we do, and this role is a unique opportunity to shape how we scale responsibly, efficiently, and sustainably.

In this role, you’ll take ownership of further building and refining Float’s compliance program, blending regulatory rigor with innovative solutions that don’t slow us down. You’ll work across teams to embed compliance into everything we do, showing strong collaboration with the rest of Float and our partners so that compliance is a strategic advantage and source of trust for our customers and company.

If you’re energized by the idea of tackling complex regulatory challenges while driving meaningful business impact, this role is for you.

As the Compliance Manager at Float:

  • You’ll work closely with our Senior Director, Risk & Compliance and cross-functional partners to ensure a best-in-class compliance program that is a strategic enabler of growth and innovation.
  • Help enhance the design and implementation of Float’s compliance framework, ensuring we stay ahead of regulatory and compliance requirements while supporting our rapid scaling.
  • Collaborate with Product, Engineering, and Operations to embed seamless compliance processes into our platform, reducing customer friction while maintaining robust controls.
  • Anticipate and navigate cross-border compliance considerations as Float grows its product and customer footprint.
  • Build and influence a culture of compliance, moving beyond the "checkbox" approach to create a program that accelerates Float’s vision to be the modern financial institution in Canada.

Requirements

You’ll be great in this role if:

  • You’ve got the experience: To be successful in this role, we’re looking for 4-5 years of risk and compliance experience, ideally within a high growth, fast moving start-up.
  • You have an entrepreneurial mindset: You thrive in a high-growth, fast-paced environment with shifting priorities. You constantly remain proactive in identifying compliance gaps and implementing scalable solutions. You are hungry to apply an innovative approach to building compliance programs that align with business goals.
  • You have experience with Canadian Anti-Money Laundering regulations: You have a deep understanding of the Proceeds of Crime (Money Laundering) and Terrorist Financing Act (PCMLTFA) and FINTRAC requirements with proven experience managing MSB registration and maintaining compliance with reporting obligations.
  • You have startup and scale-up experience: You have a background in building compliance frameworks from the ground up in startup or high-growth environments and experience scaling compliance processes and adapting to rapid customer growth. You have the ability to manage compliance responsibilities with lean teams and limited resources.
  • You possess the technical expertise: You utilize technical data and research to make timely and high quality decisions. You use rigorous logic and methods to solve difficult problems with effective solutions. You do data modeling in your sleep and have deep experience in SQL, Python and/or R.
  • You have collaborative leadership skills: You possess the strong ability to work cross-functionally with product, engineering, and operations teams. You are comfortable influencing leadership and external stakeholders with a business-oriented compliance perspective.
  • You believe in customer-centric compliance: You cocus on minimizing customer friction while maintaining robust compliance and have the ability to contribute to product design with compliance-friendly workflows.

This role won’t be a fit if:

  • You are not a self-starter and do not like to work independently
  • You do not like to work asynchronously
  • You aren’t adaptable and don’t enjoy navigating ambiguity or tackling problems without clear-cut solutions.
  • You have a “box-checking” approach – vs. a partnership-oriented, ownership mentality.
  • You don’t like regular feedback on your work
  • You aren’t obsessed with your craft
  • You aren't a team player
  • You aren't resilient
  • You aren't comfortable prioritizing your own to-do list

Don’t meet every single requirement? If you’re excited about this role, and you strongly align with our values but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may be the right candidate for this, or other future positions.

Benefits
  • Competitive compensation & total rewards
  • Flexible work hours and time off when you need to recharge`
  • Flex, in-office and remote options available, depending on your preference
  • Small team = lots of autonomy to make impactful decisions
