Actuarial Analyst I

Overview:

As the Actuarial Analyst, you will be responsible for conducting analyses on claims forecasting, exposure forecasting and other actuarial analyses on an as needed basis. You will also collaborate with staff from other areas such as Pricing, Reinsurance, Valuation, Underwriting, Capital Management, Enterprise Risk Management, Investments, Finance and Customer & Product Value to work on joint tasks and projects.

MPI is committed to growing actuarial talent at MPI. The Actuarial Analyst will have access to MPI’s Actuarial Development Program (ADP) which provides actuarial analysts with support and resources needed as they work towards attaining Fellowship.

The Actuarial Analyst will also have the opportunity to rotate into other actuarial areas at MPI.

Responsibilities:

  • Acquire the underlying claims and policy data from the Corporation’s Enterprise Data Warehouse.
  • Liaise with applicable departments and committees to acquire and develop business knowledge.
  • Perform complex actuarial analyses using actuarial and/or statistical tools, techniques, and software.
  • For Actuarial Forecasting, the responsibilities include:
  • Conducting forecasting analyses on claims, premiums, and exposures for all lines of business.
  • Creating and maintaining monthly executive reporting on claims, premiums and exposures for all three lines of business.
  • Delivering data driven insight in a clear and concise way to all stakeholders.
  • Communicating and illustrating the story that the data is telling the audience.
  • Collaborating with staff from other areas such as Claims, Commercial Lines, Valuation, Pricing, Capital Management, Financial Planning & Analysis and Enterprise Risk Management to work on joint tasks and projects.

Qualifications:

  • Education and Experience
  • Post-Secondary degree with an Actuarial Science, Mathematics, or Statistics Major.
  • Successful completion of a minimum of two actuarial exams or modules as outlined in the ADP policy.
  • Experience in an actuarial or mathematical environment is an asset.
  • Technical Knowledge and Skills:
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and VBA skills.
  • Working knowledge of PowerBI, R, SQL, Python and C++ would be considered an asset.
  • Intermediate analytical skills to present results in comprehensive report.
  • Intermediate communication skills to present information effectively to various audiences.
  • Interpersonal skills to work effectively as part of a team and coordinate with other departments.
  • Work with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Work independently and under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Intermediate organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple tasks and prioritizes assignments to meet deadlines.
  • Work with confidential and sensitive corporate information.
