The Manager, Substation Quality will be responsible for ensuring all aspects of Valard’s QMS are implemented effectively on projects, from a field perspective. Aid the Corporate Quality Manager and the Manager, Substation Technical Services in the design, implementation, operation, and maintenance of a Quality Management System that will allow Valard to continue to win and successfully execute projects.Ensure that the products or services provided by Valard are fit for purpose, are consistent, and meet both external and internal requirements. Liaise with management and staff throughout the organization to ensure that the Quality Management System is functioning consistently and effectively
Requirements
Position Responsibilities:
- Assist the Corporate Quality Manager to design, implement, operate, and maintain an ISO 9001 compliant Quality Management System.
- Assist Project Managers and Construction Managers in optimizing the project Quality budgets by adjusting QA/QC resources as required to ensure the most efficient and effective use.
- Participate in initiatives to facilitate construction activities.
- Develop and implement new value-added Quality Initiatives on a project-level.
- Support and manage field QA/QC directly on substation, renewables, and BESS Projects
- Maintain and update the project specific Quality organizational charts, job descriptions, resumes etc., facilitating any HR changes in QA/QC personnel with assistance from Site Quality Managers/Employees, ensuring all changes are communicated to the Manager, Substation Technical Services and Corporate Quality Manager for tracking.
- Ensure all Valard Quality systems (such as MBOS, SharePoint, etc.) are effectively implemented.
- Oversee and assist as required in the identification, investigation, and resolution of all nonconformities, ensuring the most cost-effective solutions are implemented.
- Conduct or facilitate the evaluation process of Suppliers.
- Assist the Manager, Substation Technical Services and Corporate Quality Manager in collecting data to evaluate performance of the QMS and ensure Customer satisfaction. Identify and control project-specific risks.
- Develop project-specific audit plans and conduct or facilitate periodic audits. Develop Quality Management Procedures for cross-functional groups and ensure they are implemented during projects.
- Develop and document key internal processes being used on projects to maintain consistency throughout projects. Communicate Lessons Learned among projects and QA/QC personnel.
- Ensure an effective and timely progressive turnover to the Customer.
- Assist the Corporate Quality Manager to maintain the Master ITP, create new quality documents and maintain and update Quality logs and tracking tools.
- Maintain tracking logs of field Quality personnel and optimize usage of such personnel on the projects. Inform the Manager, Substation Technical Services promptly on reassignments and upcoming layoffs.
- Implement Valard’s Quality Training Program at the project level and ensure its effectiveness.
- Liaise with clients, suppliers or other external or internal parties on high-level Quality matters.
- Support QA/QC or other groups on technical matters, interpreting specs and regulations or other documents as needed.
- Perform high-level Quality Audits to ensure overall compliance with Valard’s QMS and ISO 9001.
- Perform any other reasonable tasks as assigned by the Manager, Substation Technical Services.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requirements:
- Extensive knowledge of Quality Management Systems, specifically ISO 9001.
- Well-developed administrative, planning, and organizational skills.
- Able to maintain traceability of complex documentation. Computer skills.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and meet deadlines.
- Ability to prioritize various tasks and complete a variety of work assignments within structured deadlines.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Able to work with diverse personalities and backgrounds with tact and diplomacy.

Education Requirements:
- Post Secondary education
- 10 years + experience
- Certification as Journeyperson, C.E.T, E.I.T, P.Eng. etc. is a definite asset but not mandatory.
- Senior experience in Quality Control and Quality Assurance (min. 3 years in QA and min. 4 years in QC).
- Extensive knowledge of Quality Management Systems and related ISO standards.
- Excellent ability to read, interpret and apply Codes, Standards, Specifications and Drawings – Civil and/or Electrical experience is an asset.
- Advanced knowledge of the work which Valard completes (Foundations, Transmission/Distribution Lines, Substations, etc.). This includes applicable standards which apply (CSA, ASTM, etc.).
- Advanced knowledge of how to use Valard’s internal systems (MBOS, SharePoint, etc.).
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Adobe, PowerPoint & Outlook). Experience in SharePoint is an asset.
- Senior field supervisory experience (must have supervised field teams of minimum 10 people in the past).
