Job Description

The role of the OH&S Coordinator is to be responsible to ensure the timely and accurate reporting of occupational injuries to worker’s compensation boards across Canada. The Claims Coordinator is reporting to the OH&S Workers Compensation Manager and working as part of the Extendicare Head Office Occupational Health, Safety and Wellbeing team.

The claims coordinator will provide meaningful insight and assistance to internal stakeholders to ensure the success of the Occupational Return to Work Program. This role is to focus on providing support during the initial 2 week period of a new claim.

This position will be based at our Head Office in Markham, Ontario, with flexibility for in-office work as part of our hybrid work model.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the Intake, review/analysis, completion and submission of all occupational incident reports to applicable provincial worker’s compensation boards - the OH&S Coordinator is responsible to ensure legislated reporting requirements are implemented and engage internal stakeholders accordingly.
  • This includes advising on initial modified work and writing of initial period objection letters as required.
  • Collaborate with Worker’s Compensation Representatives where required.
  • Report and communicate with OH&S agencies where applicable of legislated notification requirements
  • Provide guidance to internal stakeholders on occupational claims management strategies and best practices
  • Deliver coaching and educational Sessions/webinar on an ad-hoc basis to internal stakeholders
  • Responsible for occupational incident data collection from internal stakeholders to ensure accuracy and optimize provincial reporting strategies driven by business processes.
  • Participate in OH&S Claims management program review and evaluation and provide user’s experience feedback
  • Provide general OH&S support to internal stakeholders as required
  • Liaise with the worker’s compensation boards on claims related matters as required.
  • Administration of Workers Compensation Board communications.
  • Generate regular and ad-hoc OH&S reports as required
  • Other duties as required
Requirements
  • 1-2 years of experience in OHS and Claims Management Experience
  • Experience with WSIB/WCB Standards, regulations, and procedures.
  • College diploma in a related field i.e., Business Administration, HR entry level, LR, OHS or payroll
  • Background in a healthcare environment would be an asset
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively on a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proficient in use of computers and other office equipment.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Previous experience in handling confidential or sensitive information;
  • Able to manage time efficiently and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Superior telephone manners and strong interpersonal skills.

Working Conditions

Effort (Mental & Physical):

Working conditions are normal for an office environment
  • Lifting or moving up to 10lbs may be required
  • Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer, peripherals, and mobile devices
  • Interacts with internal and external stake holders such as frontline staff, healthcare workers, local management, WSIB case managers, Corporate H&S, etc.
  • Communicating using multiple electronic devices (i.e. phone, email, fax, computer and internal database)
  • Will be expected to work in a team and individual setting
  • Must have the ability to travel within the region for meetings and Return To Work Conferences as required
  • Goal oriented team player who works well with all levels of employees and management
