Job Summary:
We are seeking an exceptional HR Manager to lead the HR team in Canada. In this pivotal role, you will manage a team of around 4 HR Generalists while supporting and managing the day-to-day HR needs for approximately 7 different facilities. Your responsibilities will include ensuring compliance with Canadian Employment Laws, fostering a positive work environment, collaborating with various stakeholders to manage benefits and leave programs, recruiting, and serving as the primary contact for union representatives.
The ideal candidate will have extensive HR management experience, a strong understanding of unionized and non-union labor laws, and exceptional leadership and communication skills.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Manage HR Generalists and specialists in Canada.
  • Collaborate with the North American Benefits manager to ensure compliance with benefits, LOA’s, STD, LTD, and RRSP.
  • Foster a positive work environment.
  • Ensure compliance with Canadian Employment Laws, with a focus on Eastern and Central Canadian Employment Law.
  • Collaborate with the HR Director on HR projects.
  • Build and recommend programs to improve the employee experience.
  • Manage plant and office recruiting to ensure all facilities remain staffed.
  • Serve as the primary contact for the Union Rep.
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities Required:

  • Extensive HR management experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Profound understanding of unionized and non-union labor laws.
  • Strong leadership and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Experience with HR Software and tools such as HRIS and ATS.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Active listening, empathetic, and champions inclusion to ensure a psychologically safe work environment.
  • Ability to travel up to 15-20% within North America.

Education / Professional Experience:

  • 7+ years in Human Resources (generalist or business partner).
  • 5+ years as an HR Manager in a manufacturing environment.
  • 5+ years managing in a unionized environment.
  • Experience creating compliant employment agreements and termination letters.

Licenses / Certifications:

  • Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) certification is preferred but not required.
